Ask any person with even the most basic knowledge of how these things are constructed and electrical circuits if washing them in water is a good idea? I'm pretty sure its explicitly stated in most manuals not to submerse the appliance. Apart from potential corrosion of the electrical components/circuitry over time you also have the potential of reusing the device before it is is completely dry and creating a water based electrical connection between Live and any metal casing/plate which would/could make you a ground path if you touch it.
