I have read in many videos over youtube where Akira is performing as the class act he is, nasty comments about his style or skills... of course those are people who feel an immense envy and hate for this magnificent drummer... He is flawles every note he plays, just perfect!!! I am sure you're not a shitty drummer, everyone has unique qualities and it's just about how we explode them into the best level that matches for us... if you love music and practice you can't be that bad!! Cheers!!...

One of the greatest drummers alive. Oh, and for those that insist on comparisons ("portney is way better", etc.). A measure of the skills and talent of drummer you want to compare to another drummer is to ask: can another drummer replicate what this one is doing, and vice versa. Mr. Jimbo can play almost anything anyone else can play, but it would very rare for the opposite. What you watching in this video is amazing.

Portnoy isnt that great to be fair. He just had a band full of first ballot HOFers. Portnoy has a limited bag of tricks really..and from what I understand is a mega dick to work with.

Can't believe you analyzed every living drummer alive to come up with this data!
The sequence from 4:30 to 4:41 is so good it brings a tear to my eye...seriously. One of my favorite drummers! Oh, if you watch the short fill at 5:14 he makes a mistake and smiles about it! I'm almost positive that he meant to end that fill on a crash cymbal instead of the ride cymbal. I've seen him goof before and he just grins it off! Great stuff!

this is a very early production from over a decade and a half ago (in 1992 i think), and Akira Jimbo has taken his art of live-drummin+"live sequencing" to a whole 'nother level. ain't noby quite like him in the whole world!

It's hard to ge better than this, kids. I don't care who you are or what you like or don't like. It fits the music perfectly, and the execution is flawless. You don't even have to like this type of music to hear that.
I have been into Akira, for 15 yrs. And I always knew he was incredible. But I never got to see this video. OMG. I passed out. Thank you Akira for continuing to inspire me. Again,,,, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!.

You must have missed 'Metamorphosis' then, the album this tune is on, also, this is from a Yamaha Drum Instructional VHS Tape, I still have a copy of it, it is what got me in to drumming, Akira Jimbo is also largely responsible for midi drum triggers in the very beginning, a living percussive legend / innovator.

This has got to be one of the greatest songs I've ever heard in my life. What else does Ishiguro Akira do? Does anyone know of any other similar music out there by this guy? I checked the others from this Akira Jimbo video series. Very cool stuff. My kind of music. Reminds me of some of the stuff from Bruford's "One of a Kind" album, only better. Let me know if anyone is familiar with other music of this caliber.

Why does every comment about what Akira plays have to be qualified or supplemented with "of Japan"? Can't we just acknowledge him for what he is: one of the most talented drummers ever, and certainly better than Dave Weckl.

God I love this guy!-Quite simply the most amazing performance I've seen-He does indeed play like an 'Alien' on this one. It's perfect apart from ( and I'm sure Akira himself would admit this) that one extra Hi-hat stab at 1.51.....should have only played three, but he puts a fourth one in...he's human after all I guess!.

I love this video. But is that a 15 inch snare? It looks huge. Great sound.
@DrumDisciple116 жыл бұрын
Yes, he does, but not on this. In his later work (and currently) he uses DTX and plays accompaniment via pads and drum hoop triggers. He programs orchestrations in the DTX sound module that follow a sequence (e.g., drum pad "A" will play notes "C","G", and "B" in that order, one note for each strike. After the third strike, a "B", the fourth strike will trigger a "C" from the sound module and so on. So, it's very important that he play his orchestrations precisely!
