Akita/PitBull Mix is Overprotective of His Disabled Owner

Today almost two dozen Huskies showed up at the park and targeted a loud and young male before he came in the park because he was barking and making a scene.
The Husky came in and got a little too close to the Akita/Pit's owner and the Akita/Pit got in defensive mode. The situation got a little hairy for a minute, but it way mainly vocal/posturing and grandstanding.
Eventually they dispersed and Winston was approached by a White Husky and they tested each other a little bit.

I think the dog being protective of his owner had nothing to do with why he was targetting the one husky. The Husky came in with a confronting attitude, something the other dog didn't like one bit. Therefore, he assigned himself the task of putting the dog in his place. His owners clearly didn't understand how wrong his confrontation at the fence was. Oh well. Great video thank you!!

Excellent video. People might not like the barking and body language, but these dogs sort out their difference this way very effectively. Much better than the silent scared dog who just attacks. I think the disabled owner needs to re-think visits to the dog park - the dog is getting no time to socialize as its concentrating on doing its 'job' the whole time. Pretty stressful.

In some parts of the video Dale is in the right, such as snapping at the husky trying to mount him. But in the other cases he was not in the right. Another thing is how the owner corrects her dog. A soft and not at all stern voice doesn't get a dogs attention and doesn't signal the dog that what he/she's doing is bad. Just repeating the dogs name over and over does nothing. Correct the dog, or a fight could start. Overly dominant dogs can easily start a fight if not corrected and if confronted with another overly dominant dog.

Very true. This is why I wont bring my AmBull to the dog park. Not only does he think hes the boss of pretty much everyone, but he is also reactive. If i had brought him into a dog park with that kind of "welcome" it would definitely end bloody. My great pyr mix, on the other hand, is the exact opposite. Least reactive dog on the planet, and literally could care less about other dogs at the park. The only time I have seen him correct another dog was when my friend's little border collie mix kept pouncing on him and pestering him.

Jason Hall if Dale is the Akita mix then you are wrong. First he shows no aggression. Labeling it as such is a misrepresentation of this behavior. Akita’s are vocal dogs and this dog is dominant. However no where in this video does he display aggression. Also the owner of the HUSKY in the Blue harness is at fault for what happened NOT the Akita mix owner. It’s so surprising that few people seem to understand dog language/behavior.

Zoka Zokarai 😂 you clearly know nothing about dog behavior. He did not continue to try to “start a fight” that would be the Husky. The Husky was causing all kinds of trouble and brought bad energy into the park before he even walked in the gate. You’re very presumptuous to say “if the other dogs weren’t well socialized he would’ve killed them”. That is literally the most ignorant statement I have ever heard. I work with dogs FOR A LIVING. I went to college for many years to be a veterinarian and a dog trainer. I have a PhD in animal behavior. Believe me Dale (the Akita mix) is NOT aggressive. You have no clue what TRUE aggression is. Also if he wanted to harm or kill another dog (which would be aggression) believe me he would have NO PROBLEMS doing so no matter how well socialized the other dogs are. In fact it’s MORE dangerous to have “well socialized” dogs around an unstable/reactive/ or aggressive dog. Socializing is nothing more than conditioning, if Dale was truly aggressive then I guarantee you that at the very least one dog would’ve been severely mauled if not killed by him. Also a dog being “stiff” does NOT equal aggression. FYI stiffness is one form of communication that can be caused by anything... if a dog feels threatened they will stiffen, if a dog has hyper prey drive and sees something to chase they will stiffen, if a more dominant dog higher in the pecking order is challenged they will stiffen. It’s called COMMUNICATION and it is NOT the same as aggression. I’m very happy you have never met my dogs because you’re one of those ignorant people who would look at my well behaved, well trained, friendly but dominant dogs and go “omg they’re so aggressive. Just LOOK at them.” When they are completely stable and reliable dogs. Word of advice: if you don’t know what you’re talking about then don’t say anything. It’s people like you who say something when they don’t know anything about a dog that gets dogs confined and put down.

@@wildrebel-love5771 well the akita was being over aggressive towards the particular husky. Even after the husky put itself in a submissive posture with the licks and allowing the akita to push him around. Obviously the husky understood that there was boundaries so it stopped being confident and vocal. On the other hand the Akita was sizing up and pushing around it's weight, for example by the Akita staying stiff with it's head over the husky's it was showing a possible attack which wasn't allowed due to the husky acting playful and regularly

Dale (the Akita mix) is a very dominant dog. That is very obvious when looking at several videos of him. But he is not aggressive. The husky that entered the dog park had a very high energy from the start and Dale did not appreciate that, especially not around his owner that he is very protective of. At 3:20 - 3:30 you can see that the husky starts licking Dales lips and also puts his head under Dale. Some people thinks that this is showing submission but actually how I see it, is that the husky tried to play the situation off, like a puppy - not taking it seriously and not respecting boundaries. That's why Dale continued to be stiff, because since he is such a dominant dog, he wants full submission, or that the husky would just walk/run off and leave them alone. But the husky kept coming back several times. If you look closely at the husky that entered the park, you can see that he had a very high energy all the time - big opened eyes, panting, VERY little sniffing. Just running around.

I'll probably get flamed for this but whatever its the internet. I actually loved the Akita/Pitbull mix. Sure, you can argue that "its dangerous, its not in control, that mix is never safe" and I'd have to disagree that I don't see it that way. I feel that there were a number of alphas bulldozing into the space you see this with tails up and the Huskies attempting to dominate him with paws up on him. Sure, the Akita/Pit mix is a pretty confident boy you can tell that by how he was submitting the other dogs but there are countless other dogs in the area of the owner and he isn't minding them at all. Having seen enough Dog Whisperer seasons (I'm no expert) though I feel those Huskies should have been in the "air lock" for a while longer until things calmed down as the pack already in the dog park weren't exactly welcoming from when he Huskies were on the outside based on a first viewing. Like I said, its the internet, everyone is welcome to their opinion. What I will say is that I'm happy for an honest debate should you see it differently. :)

dog whisperer isn't a very good source or go to thing to learn from as he use dominance as his way of training which isn't really reliable and it is dangerous it can work but there is much passive and simpler training you can do on your own without having to knock your dog down or be aggressive/dominant to it, he even failed to read a dogs body language a few times in some eps I saw (aka the famous one where he got bit pretty bad). But like you said everyone has their own opinion and I said my piece on dog whisperer I used to be a fan but after I grew up a bit, owned and trained my own dog, been to dog parks myself and so on I learned just how wrong he is on many things. I agree the breeds aren't naturally dangerous, they just have a rep for it due to ppl training theirs to be fighters and aggressive due to their large intimidating looks. I owned a pitbull when I was small and she was as gentle as a flower and she was larger then me and was one of my neighbors dog he gave her to us because he went to the army but pitbulls naturally are very gentle dogs they just look scary. if anything, akitas might be slightly more aggressive due to them being protective and needs early socialization

I don't get why some owners are just hasty to make their dogs socialize when it's not the right time or with the right dogs. :\ I would've never entered that area with my Rottweilers. D:

iiiena absolutely. My old girl was a doll with pups and non aggressive adult dogs, but do the eye dog thing with her, or snarl and it was a declaration of war. We'd end up out on the adjoining oval with the puppies and non agro dogs. No way would I let my girl brawl...hell, her litter mates cost more than the entire dog park combined. Snobbiness aside though, we raised her as a people and puppy dog, but recognised the iron will in her. Better to be safe than a jackass with a bad rep dog. Besides, if she brawled, my wife would have had my guts for garters.

@@Gungho1a My female is exactly the same and as my male is growing I can see he is just like that too. They are ok with those who are ok with them as well. Try provoke them and it's war. Both got into a few brawls that I couldn't avoid, but they are stable and socialized enough to do a big and scary scene without actually harming no one. I'll be more careful in the future, but unfortunately there's plenty of people who just don't understand to keep their dogs away from mine when it's not the right situation or time for socializing.

That’s rights man I remember taking my 3 year old german shepherd to the dog park he’s amazing with other dogs but one guy brought is dog about 1 minute after me bearing in mind he had no leash dog was already barking before actually entering the park and went for my dog he was still a pup tho around 9-10 months he was an Akita both dogs needed stitches so Yh people please socialise your dogs as it can put others in danger

The people with the husky walking to the park should of calmed her dog down and sorted it out before going in there all those dogs was reacting for a reason!

That husky jumping was him trying to be dominant. When you see the posturing over another dog they’re trying to get them to submit. Beautiful pit 😍

Dale is very dominant dog and should not be at the dog park dogs like him are disrespectful and cause dog fights. The owner actually encouraged his behavior though the energy at the park was not good esp with the Huskies, I avoid dog parks because too many people are unwilling to admit their dogs are out of control...pretty bad the dog park allows small kids that is dangerous. Anyway, thanks for your videos of Winston and Neaveah they r good dogs...and your videos help to educate the public👏🐶🐾🐶🐶👻

Kacey Forrey same, my dog is a husky and she doesn’t like other dogs and there is always one dog that is out of control because this one small dog tried to mount my dog when she was three months but she hid her area with her tail and we also quickly pulled her away and then the owner of the dog asked what was wrong with my dog and that she didn’t belong there. And even though when she is disrespectful to other dogs and the dogs snap at her, she calms down but she always barks repeatedly.

I agree. I have one dog I can take to the park, she could make friends with anything. The other is 10 and has always been dog aggressive, I have kept her out of the dog park because I'm not willing to risk the safety of anyone else's dog or mine. She's never been in a fight on walks either because I keep her close if I see another dog coming. It's just taking care of your dog.

@@blinkforarmyonce5272 .... Not to blame the victim - however, if your female is or near going going into 'heat'...you should not take her to a dog park. That is a reality which some people ignore. Dogs do not understand civil respect, nor equality between sexes. To them - an invitation is an invitation - end of story. The existing dynamic of a neighborhood dog park are difficult to determine based on a 'one-time' visit. The "new kid" needs to be properly introduced for things to go well.

florinda my68sleeper Dale was fine with other dogs until that Husky came in. Dale isn’t aggressive. So why the hell shouldn’t his owner have him there? He isn’t overprotective if he was he would NOT have gone as far away as he did. That Husky in blue should NEVER have been there.

🤦🏼‍♀️ the Akita/Pit mix was protective of its owner but I’d hardly call that overly protective in fact that most likely would have still happened with the owner nowhere near by. That Husky in the blue harness that came in, however, was starting/looking for trouble. Similar to people, In dog language it is EXTREMELY disrespectful to get up in another dogs face like that. The Akita/pit mix simply let it know “Hey knock it off. You’re being a punk and I WILL put you in your place if you don’t give respect”. The whole reason all the dogs were going crazy while the Husky in blue was coming in was because of the body language coming off it. The Husky in blue was cocky, confident, punky and clearly giving signs of instigator. “The pack”* knew this hence their reaction. *any time any number of dogs are congregated in the same general area it’s considered a pack especially if in a place like a dog park where none of the dogs are (nor should be) restrained by a leash.

I have now watched about 20-30 of your videos, and am ready to comment: 1. I love Winston. Genuinely, he is such an awesome guy. 2. Dale is an asshole. I'm really hoping a future dog puts him in place a little bit. 3. I love when your 2 dogs play together, although not in this video. 4. Your style of video is great. Keep up the good work!

Wow there are so many huskies! Some owners are so incredibly clueless it irks me. When there's a new dog trying to come in have the decency and respect to call your dog over . That teaches them to give space and wait to meet and also helps with the anxiety of the newcomer.
