Cane Corso Gets Checked by Pit Corso

Today a young Cane Corso was fooling around with dogs at the dog park, and for some reason, a Great Dane/Pit mix did not like his demeanor, so he set him straight. Then, the same dog saw my Cane Corso/PitBull, Winston, playing with my Husky, Nevaeh, and tried to intercede and put Winston's ear in his mouth. Winston is extremely sensitive of his ears, so he barked, snapped, lunged at him, in order to strongly communicate "NO! Back off!"

I like that the owner of the Corso was there correcting his dog and let Winston correct him also. This is the best way for a dog to learn. People might think Winston is being aggressive or starting a fight, but it's the exact opposite

Winston is truly unique. From the videos I've watched, he uses his paws to push the other dog's head down. As a dog lover, I know a *LOT* about dogs, and one thing that's for sure is that once their heads are unable to move, most of the time they don't move. So once Winston used his paws, the other dog had no chance. You could tell from the fact that the corso seemed to be scared of Winston during the attack after he used his paws on the corso's head. I have never seen that before and I'm truly amazed. You've got yourself one hell of a dog.

I had a 65lb Staffordshire who did the same thing with the paws. It definitely is rare and you don't see that often, but it's funny when you see how other dogs react to it haha.

I noticed that about Winston too! It's funny how he always comes in swinging 🤣 but it's also interesting because it seems like his go-to warning sign. Rather than nip, he uses his feet to push dogs back or keep their heads away from his. In my opinion, Winston is extremely intelligent, and also very self aware. It's a warning sign that is both defensive and aggressive and also reduces the potential damage to both dogs involved.

The problem is, when you look at that with uneducated eyes, the pit was the offensive one. With educated eyes, it’s very easy to see that the pit was defending itself 100% so yes you’re exactly right. The pit will be blamed for a fight.

Winston is such a good dog. He's a confident dog; assertive when he needs to be but 100% chill otherwise. You've done such a good job with him. I hope any dog I own in the future will be half as good as him. The fawn Corso was a little too assertive; insecure dominant. I hope the owner will continue to work on improving his social skills. Winston gave him a good first lesson.

Thanks for taking videos at the dog park and posting them on KZbin. They are a really great resource for owners to better understand dog behavior cues, signals, and body language. In the past, I tended to jump in too early and end what I considered to be too-aggressive dog play, when it was really just energetic dog play. After watching your videos, I have a better sense of when to step in before matters escalate. Winston is such a great even-tempered dog

Joey Faggotor i understand that but even a working dog should have respect, this corso shows no limits to boundaries when it came to getting into the other dogs faces. Corsos are a protecting breed for the most part and even when there isn’t an actual threat the corso would attempt to mount and dominate like it ran the entire dog park. Dominance isn’t bad for this breed, it’s actually a great trait but I’m just really talking about him being a jerk about it.

@Wilson Combatgirl There is a big difference between overly excited and dominance behaviour and aggression. An aggressive dog would show total other reactions. He must be better trained and better socialized we agree on this. But he is still a pup although he has a big body.

The Corso made very polite corrections and wasn’t disrespectful until the head posturing came later. But overall he was being very polite, especially for a pup. He’s 10 months old-he’s going to test boundaries until he’s old enough to understand where all of them lie. Also, vocal cues are very polite and are better and more accurate than subtle stiffening or body posture. At that point, there’s no question about whether he’s liking something-he explicitly tells you with his growls.

My last dog's name was Winston. He was a Plott Hound. Sick bridle pattern on his head and both hind quarters but he had some beagle in him so all black on top of his back. He was gorgeous. My best friend. I miss him dearly. Love your Winston! He's great!!!!

These dog videos are a blast to watch! I don’t consider myself to be a dog expert. But to me, the tan color Cane Corso was so amazing! This Corso always seemed to exude confidence and was never intimidated by the pit Corso. This Cane Corso was still very young, but to me, I saw amazing self-control, ie “strength under control.” In my opinion, the Cane Corso sent the message to the pit Corso, “I am here, so you better behave yourself.” Just my thoughts. Love your videos, and especially when you identify who they're. That mini bull dog was gorgeous. The Corso puppy needs more time, it would be nice to see him actually running and playing with other dogs. I find it problematic to have kids in dog parks with protective breed dogs, I've seen some horrific dog fights because the kids were screaming and running and thier family dog thought they were in trouble. The kid got bit by a couple dogs and several dogs were badly hurt. People were shook up for a long time.

That Brown Corso is wayyyy too excited. The owner needs to calm him a bit before going to the dog park. A big dog like that if not trained properly would cause a fight one way or another if not calmed around other dogs especially the little ones. Please dog owners, remember that if excitement level unchecked, it will raise higher to the aggressive state of mind.

After a bit of binge watching a number of videos from this channel its clear that this boy Winston has a level of awareness that every other dog he encounters ends up respecting. You should be very proud of that. He's a fully formed dog. It's great to watch these interactions. I have a 100lb bluenose pitbull that attracts unwanted attention all the time. He's been in 3 "tussles" with other dogs. All of which he actively tried to avoid. I know this because I watch my boy very closely, he is a 100lb pitbull after all and could rip the face off a transport truck. You have to respect the power of some of these breeds.

Pits have caused way too many attacks kn humans, children, etc. The attitude and justification and that pit would be wronged for nothing attitude is why people need to realize Pit Bulls are NOT pets!!!!! I used to breed them. So I know quite a bit about them. I wish people would realize this. Now Winston was NOT at fault but just like that temperament can swing the other direction without a notice is exactly why they are not to be brought in your home. But I know, people can do what they want in their own homes. I love the Cane Corso race. They are wonderful dogs. They are very protective to their home and family, I think more than any other race. But they are no fighter or biter. They usually act with body language, their body mass and strength and only vocal. Such a little quirk of them is that they would like to play referee in disputes among other dogs.

I would have to say Shepard's are more protective then most breeds.

@@radioman6489 Shepherd dogs are also very protective dogs but in another way as Bullmastiffs. Shepherd dogs and also Dobermans are the best dogs to have on your side. They have a high level of aggression. Bullmastiffs, Rottweiler and Berner Sennen Dogs are the best Guard dogs because they are very territorial. Bullmastiffs are very calm to their family and aggressiv as guards of your property and family. Cane Corso are a lot more agile as the other Bullmastiffs breeds or Rottweiler. But they are not over the level aggressive. They keep calm until they see their family endangered. But they are normaly no biter or fighter as most other protective breeds. But nevertheless, every dog breed needs a good education and constantly training, especially the protective breeds. Wrong education makes out of the best dogs bad dogs. I was just talking about the natural dispositions of the races. Under all these aspects I see Cane Corso as the most protective dogs. But there are reasons why police and military use most shepherd dogs. I love German Shepherds and Malinois and I also love Cane Corso.
