Also an experienced car audio installer and this video is EXCELLENT! Love that you mentioned the true purpose and importance of the fuse installation as well as protecting the power wire with grommets and even the excellent mention of protecting the power cable if it runs near any sharp edges along it's path A++. Correctly the fuse is to protect YOU and your car from an electrical fire, not to protect your equipment! I have actually seen amp install videos that make no mention of any of this as well as claiming the fuse is to protect you gear from surges etc. Also your mention of stripping the paint for your ground. So many take the fast\easier route and think that the bolt head is "good enough" of a ground. Only thing not really mentioned is that typically power wires are separated from signal wires and power wiring is usually run down the drivers side of the car and signal wires down the passenger side of the car. Also have to LOVE Subaru's for their ease of install. It's almost like they were made for car audio installs. Plentiful useful grommets through the firewall and they even provide empty spaces in existing wiring clips as well as wire channels down both sides of the car from front to back. Really a dream to run wires in a Subaru. Nice Job!

With that kind of fuse holder, I use ferrules on the ends of the power cable. It protects the fragile wire strands from the screw when you tighten it down.

Its funny how times change,back in the day the first thing that hit the trash can was the factory head unit,lol,now the old line converters are seeing a resurgence. When installing a amp TAKE YOUR TIME,pick you a nice weekend, get up early,get all your stuff rounded up and call a buddy for help and get your amp installed, being in a hurry will get you nothing but problems,think about it as building a house,make it all pretty,make sure everything is snug,use zip ties,make it look bad ass,you dont wanna open your trunk to show your friends you new system and there is stuff hanging everywhere and your using solder wire for a power cable. On you power wire, the part that goes under the hood,put you some black wire conduit tubing on it,temperatures under the hood get very nasty specially during summer, this all might seem trivial to you until your on the side of the road waiting for the fire truck,the fuse is a redundancy item but never hurts to be extra careful.

lot,s of great information; excellent video much appreciated-regarding the memory or on/off wire -connect,s to back of the amplifier and then connect,s to any power source that is only active when the key is on or car is running; is that correct-I,m installing a single channel amp for my subwoofers; the subwoofer box has a "CUP STYLE POWER CONNECTOR"- which only allows for the pos/neg cables/wires-to be inserted and are held in place with a push open-close connector-do I just cut the ends off the RCA cables and insert into the connector cup?? Awsome video, how did you create the wiring harness for your factory radio. I have 2020 WRX Kicker factory upgrade JL all in 1 12in sub. Not happy with sub going to get kicker, sub box. and amp. I want amplify door speakers also. I taped into fuse box for remote turn on.

Thank you for your videos I found them so helpful. I did the same set up you’re showing on this video and I have one question to you. I live in Texas and it gets so cold here in winter. I use the heater most of the time blowing to the feet and my concern is the amp and the lc7i could/will overheat once I turn my heater on. My question to you is how did you solve this issue? Is there a way to disconnect/eliminate the passenger side heater vent to prevent this?

These videos are super helpful! Thanks for making them so clear. I will be installing a Sound Ordnance b-8ptd under the driver seat of my 2019 WRX. I plan on running the power line the same way you have shown in your video. Couple of questions: 1. What is the best way to route the high-input (speaker wire) and running power line to the other side of the car? Would you run it under the center console and then up the door trim, through the glove box, and behind the head unit? 2. There is a remote line that is 14' long I am thinking under the dash would be the best place to install this but not sure how to access that area. Would you recommend it going in another area? Would love your input and advice. I am a newbie to all of this, so forgive my greeness! Thanks for anything you can provide.

Where you have the FuseHolder Located Underneath the hood shroud. Did you do anything to keep from water trickling down? I’m alittle worried that in that location the water could get to it.

how can amp burn without burning battery line fuse (60amp) and amp fuses (30amps x 2 fuses). i thought fuses would burn before the amp does! but my amp burnt :(

Hi in my car I saw 2 wires that looked like speaker wire or something, and next to it there was 2 rca connectors with its cable, and I was told there was a amp in the car before but they took it out. I see no connectors on the battery tho so I’m not sure if the wires are there if if they aren’t wired to the battery or another source of power

Hello I’m just wondering because I had this done to my corvette 2008. I had a fuse box and some wiring connected from the battery of the car directly to the amplifier of the car because the amplifier was not getting enough power. Just wondering if when I turn my car off the battery is being drained still ?

Anything above 500 w amp should be running a 2 gauge wire. If you dont you are actually are shorting your amp of power. Also run a capacitor or double the out put on the factory alternator. Most cars run a 120 amp. Get at least a 200 amp alternator out put. Your lights won't flicker

I am an experienced car audio installer. I am very pleased with your video and your careful attention to details. You nailed all the key points! I have a 2020 WRX that I had to do the same thing with. I installed a Cerwin-Vega VPAS12ST powered sub, which sounds outstanding. I upgraded the door speakers to Alpine Type S 6.5" coaxial and the dash tweeters I bought the Kicker OEM replacement that Subaru sells. The stock head unit struggles to give those speakers the juice they deserve so that'll be my next upgrade but it all sounds totally amazing. Great video. I will share it with other enthusiasts as a quick reference 😉

Is there a point where the fuse is too big for the power cable/amp? For example my amp is the Infinity Primus 6004a & manual says to use minimum 30a fuse. Do I go slightly above at 40a or I can just go straight to 60a or even 100a?

I want to install 0 gauge as main power and main ground. However, I want to install distribution blocks after that to power exact similar setup you are having with LC7i and two amps. I am planning to take 4 gauge power and grounds from those distribution blocks to 3 devices. do I need to install fuse for each line or the main fuse after the battery is enough? How much amp of the fuse you install it after the battery. I like your video, they are detailed and clear. Good job.

Run 0gauge with a fuse to a distribution block, then fuse all amps with the own fuse, to get what fuse you need to use for each amp look at the owners Manual for each amp for the power draw for that amp, then you can you the correct fuse at the battery.

You need an LOC or "Line Out Converter". It will take your high level outputs and convert into low level outputs that your Amp can use as an input. This is a very common thing to do.

Just a simple question. Why did you choose a LOC rather than just get an amp with speaker-level inputs? Is there a reason for that? I'm in the process of upgrading my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee audio and don't want a new head unit but the head unit has no RCAs so my plan is to get a 4 channel amp with high-level inputs (Fosgate 400x4 Punch compact) and just put the amp between the headunit and speakers using speaker wire, which has the added benefit of being able to use all the factory controls on the head unit (fade, volume, bt etc.) and less distortion (it has to be a pretty good amp for that tho). Any thoughts?

LoC is what you need when using factory head units. Personally, all my amps have had high level inputs but I’ve never used them. It’ll work the same so I heard as RCA’s, only with chance of humming. I’ve read somewhere that rcas are the best way to go if quality in sound is what you chase. Whatever route rca or high level you decide to go, it’ll work! Good luck with your install!
