Let me get this straight. The kid is walking home from his cousins funeral, where he thought it made sense to bring a realistic looking gun....starts pointing at houses while in some fantasy world all by himself like an 8-year old, sees a cop and doesnt think to drop the gun IMMEDIATLY ??? Why do I have this feeling his cousin's funeral was the result of being shot ? Someone needs to instill some common sense to some of these kids because its clearly lacking. We do not see the movement of the subject prior to him being shot. The officer quickly gives medical aid to the injured subject. Sadly, it was determined later it was not a functional firearm. Um yes when ur a cop and a guy turns at you with a gun in his hand that is protocol.
@popcorn51308 ай бұрын
The "protocol" is to defend yourself and/or others from a perceived imminent deadly threat. That deadly threat can be instantaneous, it may come minutes or hours later, or it may never come. If an Officer encounters a person with a gun in hand... after having received a report of that person pointing the gun at potentially occupied houses... and that person lifts the gun while in close proximity to and facing the Officer (in this case, it appears he lifted it in order to toss it, but that isn't always the case, and an Officer doesn't have to, and shouldn't have to, wait to find out WHY they're lifting the gun -- the guy would've been better off if he had just dropped it straight down instead of lifting his hand to toss it... or never had the gun in the first place), that Officer has every right to defend himself from that perceived deadly threat IMMEDIATELY, even before any command. (And, if you want to argue that he tossed the gun so the Officer should never have shot, I challenge you to act out the scenario yourself -- use fake props and have someone play the suspect and hold a pretend gun in hand, then you play the Officer and have a pretend gun, then have the other person play several scenarios of him either raising the pretend gun to shoot you or raising it to toss it away, and realize how quick it happens and how the average person's brain can't discern the difference until it's too late... and you may have ended up shot. The Police practice this in Shoot/Don't Shoot scenarios, and, even with extensive training, they sometimes just don't have enough time to determine if a threat is real or not... and, to defend themselves, they act on the perceived threat.) Just imagine if the guy had had a real gun and started spraying rounds at the Officer, would you expect that the Officer would still have to give a "first command" before being able to actively defend himself? 🤦♂ ijs

Then, it seems almost impossible to hit a hand holding a gun right from the draw as he did. Also, he shot right after asking the suspect to show his hands. Maybe it really was an accidental discharge, as people in the comments are saying, that would make sense. Then, lastly, why on earth would you walk around with a toy gun and point it at people's homes after coming home from a funeral??? Hopefully, they will find out what exactly happened here.

While carrying a realistic toy gun is a dumb idea, it isn't a capital crime that deserves the death penalty. This video has already been doctored (did you hear the shot?) because it shows the officer in a bad light. He fires before he has his target in the sights. The "oh s" comment barely heard notes he wasn't expecting the shot himself. This is a negligent discharge. If the bullet hadn't hit the kid's wrist, where would it have hit? A residential house. A 9mm hardball FMJ round will often penetrate the exterior wall of these typical wood framed houses and still be dangerous inside the house. Passing through the kid's wrist didn't slow it a lot. What did it hit still? Another indication of the negligent discharge is he hit the wrist. No one shooting at a subject is shooting for the wrist. That is TV - Hollywood theatrics, not real life. This indicates he fired before intended. I video most of my range time, as being a public range, I can't go check after each shot, and so the video shows me later where they were going and when. The noise of a shot that close to the camera is loud enough there is no mistaking it. Yet you don't hear it in this video. The kid isn't the brightest, carrying the gun in his hand in the open, and his comments that he had it "to be safe" meant he intended on brandishing it to protect himself, but neither of those is a crime worth being shot and possibly killed by an officer over. The officer needs retraining on gun safety. The officer needs retraining in tactical use of the weapon. The officer needs to be on desk duty until a psyche eval if he is even capable of being on the street. His reaction to fire first indications he is operating in fear, and is a danger to those around him.

About ten minutes later, we had a cop in the basement checking us because someone called saying they saw a guy running down the alley with a machine gun. People call with lots of stories that are not always accurate. The woman who called at 7:04 pm was a typical chicken who was hiding far away and saw the kid in the distance. Often, since police don't respond, the descriptions are embellished. Cops won't come for a suspicious guy, but they will for a guy waving a gun around.
