What I personally got from this is after all these years Akuma might actually be starting to enjoy fighting again, at least against Ryu. Like the figure smiling and Ryu's dialog definitely makes me think Akuma is chamging internally.

Yeah I'm glad they didn't go down the "he'll eventually become Oni", which is what was happening in SF3 - he was going mad. Looks like capcom retconned his story and Ryu has definitely had an effect on him 😄 Judging by SF5 story looks like Akuma wants to transcend "beyond the demon" and he knows he can't do that with the satsui no hado alone.

I think Akuma's story is good because it shows him accepting Ryu's path as a warrior and respecting him as a possible equal which is further emphasized in World Tour and many of the arcade modes are like a prolouge to the events in Nayshall and World Tour being a part of it, and I would also argue that some characters in Tekken do get much to do or ways to progress like Asuka, Lili, Paul, Law, Nina, Anna, etc.

another case where the World Tour story actually shows how much Ryu has grown, and how Akuma has almost become even more of a recluse. . . although somewhat humanized (if slightly) by talking with others about him. Plus; getting to actually talk to Akuma is still genuinely a wild thing to me, since for the longest time he's been this wild card element in SF lore. Never really part of the mainline plot, but always present in some way.

Akuma doesn't kill everyone he fights, thats a bit of misconception. He kills opponents who he has considered to have reached their peak in skill and offers him no more challenge. It's why his Rivalry with Ryu is a thing because he see's Ryu as having massive potential and he wants him to use the dark hadou to become as strong as possible and overtake him.

Visually the characters in Street Fighter move forward, but they don't do much narratively. You see Ryu slowly become a Buddhist monk visually, but he is still just wandering around beating dudes up narratively. You see that Akuma is becoming more and more like Asura or Bishamonten, but he is still just trying to kick Ryu's ass. Ken looks divorced, Guile looks like he just walked out of the VA, but are they really doing anything different than they were before, and if so, is it really just removing some of their pathos to facilitate them randomly bopping around?

I would disagree because we have Ryu who was trying to understand what strength is to him while also trying to fight against the dark hado which leads to multiple events in past games and he has progressed to finally conquer it and embrace a better power which leads him to face Akuma in confidence, Akuma was fixated on making Ryu into his ultimate rivale by wanting to follow the same path as him but we see that he has begun to gain respect for Ryu and his path while still holding to his warriors code that conflicts with some villains like Bison, Ken lost everything because of JP and is trying to fix it while Guille is trying to investigate Nayshall. These characters progress between each game and the story is important because it is reflected in their designs.

I like SF6's slice of life approach to its cast, even if admittedly little happens. SF6 legit made me smile at seeing Ryu struggle with technology but willing to learn. I found it all kinds of wholesome to see Chun take the time to find civilian clothes for him, and to see him actually wearing them in game. And i found it cool that he still kept in contact with Retsu after all this years. I found out more about Ryu as a person in one game than in the past 20 years of SF lore and movies.

I mean. Yes. Ryu for example, had a whole plot about going from a eager up-and coming fighter, scaring Sagat when he first lapsed into the satsui no hado (which formed a long lasting rivalry that actually evolved between games), then spent years struggling against that dark part of him before overcoming it for good. He also had stuff going on with Bison and had to master the void to finally conclude a storyline that lasted since SF Alpha. Which is why he is so laid back in SF6 (while still the disciplined martial artist he should be). He was a rookie in SF 1,now he is a master. Street Fighter has never been the best at executing it's story, but it have a story. Lots of things happened.

In defense of SF6, they have progressed some of the characters in their story. Examples include Ryu conquering the Dark Hado, Chun Li raising Li Fen & running a martial arts class, Blanca being a jungle tour guide & adored by people, and Ken going into hiding for being framed for a crime he didn't commit. With all that said, Akuma's story mode feels very lackluster in comparison.

All jokes aside, my guess is they'll go the Garou Mark of the Wolves route and have the kids and disciples of the current cast take center stage. It already kind of started with Sakura, Menat, and Kimberly. Li-Fen and Mel were too young to be part of the SF6 cast, but I'm pretty sure both will eventually be playable characters.

Oh man, the Character BGM system is great. I figured you'd only be able to change a character's theme to other versions of that character's themes. But you can pick any music in the game. I bought the two SF4 music packs. Gave everyone from SF4 their SF4 themes. Then gave everyone else other themes from SF4 too, just to get rid of all lame SF6 music! Enjoy that Balrog theme Ed. It's 100x better than your theme! I really wanted to give Rashid his SF5 theme, but it's currently the only SF5 song I'm interested in, and I just don't want to buy an entire music pack for 1 song... I wish they had a pack for SF4's Stage Themes as well. I'd KILL to give Volcanic Rim or Crumbling Lab to somebody. But currently it's just Character themes atm.
