Not only Azzura but after Big Sky Azzura both from the 1998 album The Infinite Desire. One of my favorites. It will always remind me of the beach with my family🌊🏝️☀️

What Al is using here is not a guitar synth - the GK mic attached to his Ovation triggers a Roland VG88 Virtual Guitar System, which is based on Roland's COSM guitar and amp modelling. No MIDI involved. I dig the way he fades in the sound of a Les Paul via the VG88.

Al and PAT both play the Roland GR303. Lovely guitar. Has a 24 pine old synth hookup. Pat plays the Roland all the time. Al not so much anymore. But the Ovation has an external synth, also a Roland attached to it. The one you see now is an Ovation an American made guitar. Listen to Al,s Soaring through a dream CD, he really shines there on the GR303.

15 years later and you’re one of the few to touch on Al’s Synth sound which is simply an incredible sound. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Al twice now and both times I’d forgotten to ask about his synth sound because although I know it’s a synth and a gr303 and various other Roland’s I have no idea what the sound is and how to get it.

@@Loganblubaugh I used to have a mint condition GR-303, like an idiot I sold it several years ago, I kick myself for it. Life, circumstances sometimes makes you make bad decisions. I have also met Al D several times, even had lunch with him and dinner at the Strand in the 80's. Myself and couple of friends at the coach house left the key in the car and ended up hanging out with Arto his percussionist at the time and Al. Those were the days

@@lavestehaves he’s extremely hard working and a very deep individual but super friendly he gave me his pick after a show in Colorado this October and signed my sunburst ovation custom legend same model he used for many years in the 80s it was great! Do you mind offering me some knowledge on the gr303 synth sound Als using? How do you describe that chimey synth sound? I need to get that tone at home so bad!

I've visited his live concert today. Very beautiful music, technical player, but no "drive", almost "soulless". Just compare to Joe Satriani!
