Saw him open for either Jewel or The Neville Brothers, can't remember, but Rev Al was beyond any expectations. He had about 50 long-stemmed red roses at the edge of the stage and he could be singing going up to falsetto as he bent over to get a rose! Ridiculous. We were smitten...so were the women...love, love, love

Ned from Spain sayin Hey La n Che. A great great song, timeless, wonderful playing by everyone. The HI Records sound is instantly recognizable whether it was the Rev Al Green, Syl Johnson, Ann Peebles, Willie Mitchell or under the radar guys like O.V. Wright. The Hodges brothers on guitar, organ and bass solid as always plus the legend Al Jackson jr from the MG's on drums and a co-writer too. So many of Rev Green's 70s LP's are solid and beautiful top to bottom. Hope to hear more someday soon. Stay well and all success

Al Jackson jr's drums on this start simple and tight but he's playing both the snare and rack tom to give it more weight plus an added tom tap on the offbeat. As the song moves along he starts adding some bass drum rebounds too. An absolute master and gone way way too soon. He 's still schoolin' my playing.

Those Memphis Hornz, though! I'd take issue that with your observation that you know it's the Reverend Al from first note. Ann Peebles (at least) employed the same bunch, at the same time to magnificent effect: Here ya go -> kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKjSfKRsfbWqoac I'm enjoying you playing stuff you know, as well as songs that are new to you. I'd dearly like to meet you both; you seem sound blokes; you're clued up and massively relatable to a chap like me.

@@JoeandAngie He admitted to hitting his wife, Shirley, once although she said he'd beaten her throughout their marriage. In 1975, he settled a $100,000 lawsuit for assault and battery charges brought by Linda Willis, a former secretary.
