Oh oh 1975, Al Jarreau recorded a sexy song, "We Got By" and at 16 years of age was my first experience at that sexy jazz ear. And yes, I was a 16 year old who went out with the 19-20 year old guys and learned and loved to soulfully ballroom dance within the changing Tempo to this song. Dancers, especially women, this is the song to learn Urban ballroom dance and follow a man who knows how to create drama and mood with rhythmic flourishes. RIP Al Jarreau But this is probably the last of people dancing and holding one another.

We Got BY~ I heard the Al Jarreau when he appeared on Saturday Night Live singing this song and right away i knew he is a once in a life time artist. It felt like Church. I'm from the D--grew up with great singers in and out of church and Al could SANG and be an Instrument at once--a rare gift. I was blessed to see him in person and he received a standing ovation in the D as his Voice became many instruments! RIP and thank God for making Al Jarreau.

Rest in peace, Mr. Jarreau. I was in college, late '75 or early '76, and my musical tastes were Springsteen/Neil Young,/Steely Dan/ Roxy Music/The Who/Bowie/Marshall Tucker Band/etc. My friend Sam brought this Jarreau album to a party I had never heard anything like it; in my memory we never got past the title song, we just played it over and over because it was so unique. I would never say I was a big Al Jarreau fan, but he made an impression and over the years always appreciated his work. My impression was that he was a class guy, and he will certainly be missed.

And now He's singing with the Angels. Thanks Al, always enjoyed the music. Especially back in the 70's when we first heard your unique gifts musically. Condolences to his family. Another one, from my lifetime, now gone. Amazing that Little Richard is still somewhat with us. Grew up hearing 78RPM's of his style too back in the late 50's early 60's...and the Beatles when they first were on the telly. Music History of our times...continuing.

I hardly had a bellyful Never knew a new bicycle Hand-me-down books and shoes They brought the yule tides in July I rode a bus, a train and sometimes Strolling for miles to a movie show Singing a song "Shoobedoo "While birds and rich folks flew Right on by But we got by Lord knows we got by Winter wishes wait till June We brightened July with That hot dog fun Tell your mama you're with Sue You bring the beans and I'll Find the wine Them neon lights were bright Till 2: 00 And sneaking back home with This girl named Jo I hurried down to say do" And stared my first man-child In the eye But we got by Lord knows we got by And now baby's got his bellyful And finally here's that new bicycle Working, praying, June to June And mama's got la gleaming In her eye And we got by Lord knows we got by You see we kept on walking And talking, hawking Ooing, cooing, wooing Loving, tugging, hugging, rubbing Sugging, fugging, laying, praying, swaying Letting, fretting, begetting, lying Flying, trying, sighing, dying.
