I started dating my girlfriend-A Junior in December of 1964 as a Senior....these two songs had a great impact on our relationship because of the lyrics....especially "We Could"......we've been together since that December...married for over 45 years..I still get misty eyed from these songs...Thanks, Mr. Martino...for the love and memories...!

On this day in 1963 {April 18th} Al Martino performed "I Love You Because" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'... Twelve days earlier on April 6th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #3 and spent 16 weeks on the Top 100... And on May 25th it reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart... Al Martino, aka Jasper Cini and Johnny Fontane, passed away on October 13th, 2009 at age 82 Mr. Clark passed one year ago today {04-18-2012}

Al Martino? Arthur Prysock? Ol' Dick Clark had some musical range! Of course, this was back in the day when a good Pop, MOR or Easy Listening tune could break onto the Billboard Hot 100 and thrive. Remember "Everybody Loves Somebody"... #1 in 1964? There was so much music crossover that Billboard didn't publish a R&B Top 50 chart for 15 months (12/63 to 4/65)...all the good R&B went straight to the Hot 100.

We Could is a favorite of mine for years. Al is not as well-known these days as he rightly should be. KZbin is fixing that!

We Could was arguably one of Jasper Cini's finest moments. It hit at just the right time, with the musical landscape of November 1964 being blessed with a richly diverse selection of singles by everyone from the Dave Clark Five, the Detergents and Lee Rogers to the Exports, the Larks and Nella Dodds. Arguably one of his five best singles overall.
