Thomas didn't believe that it was Jesus after the resurrection, until he was allowed to feel the holes in his hands. So a person who doesn't believe was known colloquially as a "doubting Thomas" - hence why Thomas doesn't believe the bill!

These are all original material he has a theme in mind and then just goes with the flow according to audience response. A very intelligent man with an awesome mind. As someone pointed out he has a keen interest in military history. He did a short series fot TV where he accompanied a team of historians and archaeologists visited world war 1 battle sites and uncovered relics. Uniform buttons, military kit, munitions and in one episode bits of a British bi plane. Al brought history to life with understanding and compassion.

There's a lot say son is affectionate but like most things in Britain it depends on the context. Son used to be a lot more common, so it's used to mock people at times. "Get in there, my son" - can be your friend doing something like pulling a girl or scoring a goal. But a pig (police) might say "You're nicked, my old son". That's pretty old school, but context is king. Here it's to denote just a younger male, the most American way I can think of is 'sport' or 'buddy'.
