@@Mviews-hb4ib I believe it will survive and the PC era will pass. My reason for thinking this is that if ' you' (anyone) look beyond social media and see how people relate to each other, in the UK, it hasn't changed as much as many portray it to have done. The real world is very different to the media. It's an evolutionary process of never-ending growth, with periods of plateau or even devolution along the way, not a one-way street to PC hell. That's how I see it anyway.
@stephenfolland77673 жыл бұрын
@@attila_895 Yes, I agree, except that in the UK many politicians are not so divorced from 'normal' people; they are normal people. The reality is that some people just think they're special, and I would argue this is worse in the English speaking world, but even worse in the US; narcissism basically (I'm referring to cultural patterns not individuals). As long as we keep reminding people who think they're better than others that they're not, including with humour, we'll be fine. In other words to avoid the 'them and us'.

the origins of jock goes back hundreds of years but was cemented into the British psychy during the first world war when soldiers used the terms Tommy=English Taff or Taffy=Wales jock=Scotland or paddy=Irish it's a term of affection which reflects regionalism not racism indeed it's army origins still run deep with the black watch proudly using the term the jocks.
@sweaty70124 жыл бұрын
Not just the Black Watch. Every Scottish Regiment. The Scottish Infantry Regiments used to train all together and separate from the other British Regiments. The battle of Banockburn in 1314 was a victory for the king of the Scots Robert the Bruce over the King of England Edward ll, in the first was for independence. So it's a battle cry for Scottish independence, but as Al Murray so eloquently points out in some of his other shows, in not the heats that counts, it's the final.

Jock is a slur term. It's rhyming slang for sweaty sock. I can't remember where that show was filmed but it's local rivalry between cities and the North/south divide within England. The northern cities were historically the industrial cities of the country and the south being the farming lands, but the capital London, is in the south of England so it's a richer area because of it being easily accessible to the Western European mainland countries. Also the full length show is worth getting if you are able to find it.

lot of uk peeps hate on Liverpool (probably mainly to do with the following things...most of it comes from the south east which has many Tory voters (uk republicans basically) and Liverpool has always been Labour voters classically (democrats uk style- ish...they are actually quite different but its the closest match) , also there is a big Welsh and Irish population there and the UK is basically (in the past anyway) england which were mainly Saxon (and later Norman, French) and Wales, Scotland and in the past Ireland who are all Celts Irony is , most peeps in the UK have some Saxon and Celtic blood, even more Ironic the Saxons and Celts got on a lot better than many think, most of the time, it was the Normans and French aristocracy that turned them against each other when they ruled England way back. In fact our "upper class" accent ( the accent that north americans associate with UK) is actually an evolution of French and German aristocrats speaking English. You can hear this when French and Germans speak English, they struggle with some inflections, but the bits they get spot on are the bits that just happen to be present in the upper class or "Posh" English accent. FTR the queen is actually German by descent (House of Saxe Coburg - Gotha, they changed their name to Windsor in WW1 so uk peeps would forget they were German , seeing as they were the enemy) This is why many long English words are the same or similar to French, and also why Frigg, Cunt, Shit and Fuck are swear words (Saxon and or Celtic words). The ruling aristocrats saw the common folks language as vulgar and beneath them, so these words became frowned upon, and in true stokholm syndrome style the common man adopted the practice. In summary the tensions go back to countless wars and but are more a hangover of the past than a true genetic division (some of this stems back to Roman tiimes too as they had a similar outlook on the UK and its people)
