The proof of this is watching their most famous detective, inspector Clouseau I think he’s called, and that’s another thing they struggle with spelling , why not just call most people “Smith” or another straight forward name?

As some have mentioned, Al Mrray does most of his comedy via his comedy character The Pub Landlord. Seeing him live is a bit risky, especially if you sit near the front as he likes 'audience participation' !. They made a short lived sitcom on SKY TV here in the UK back in - I think- the late 90's or early 2000's called 'Time Gentleman Please' which was set in a pub and was basically a comedy vehicle for the Pub Landlord. I often think he's partly based on a much older, 1960's British TV character called Alf Garnett who was an outrageously bigoted for the time. A brilliant caricature, he was played by the very talented actor Warren Mitchell in the sitcom 'Till Death Us Do Part. The parallels between the two are obvious but Al's version is a bit lighter & more surreal at times.
@mistacoz4 жыл бұрын
Warren Mitchell was a pioneer but unfortunately too many people were fans because they agreed with his fictional satirical character's bigotry. A portion of both Mitchell and Murray's fans get uncomfortable when they see them in interviews talking about the characters they play. Both comic geniuses though IMO.
@jocelynstephens70584 жыл бұрын
Alf Garnet in - To Death us do part - was then adopted to American TV and he became Archie Bunker. They could not be quite the same as the interracial conditions were not and are not the same, so Archie could not be so close to the edge on racial issues (Alf used the boundary as a tightrope). Booth men both very talented as previously stated. For Al Murray he plays a somewhat stereotypical character of a know it all Londoner in the form of a bar owner. In reality he is far from this and attended Oxford (EnglishEnglish for he went to a top end university) as Alister Murray. The interesting part for us is that we are in turbulent political times where Alister Murray would be typically on one side of the divide and the pub landlord on the other, so he keeps far away from that dominating subject. Almost a Berny Sanders voting ventriloquist and his Trump supporting dummy.
