RIP Al Oerter. A segment I saw on him in 1980 on ESPN inspired me to take throwing seriously and work at it, leading to a college scholarship and competing in national championships. He was a great example.

I met Mr. Al Oreter at a Track meet at the old Randall Island Downing Stadium where the New York Cosmos Soccer team play at. I was getting warm up for the men's 800m when I see this man throwing a discus. As I got a little closer it was Al Oreter. He was sponsoring a sports ointment I forgot what it was called, but I talk to him. This is in 1985. He was nice humbled a very quiet man. He is been very miss .

I saw Al at the national sports festival in Syracuse in the summer of 1981. Even though he placed 2nd, what a great athlete.

Your right, Al was such an inspiration to Carl, but when you compare Bolt, Bolt still has a long way to go and didn't Carl win 4 golds in one olympics? Kinda makes you wonder about the Bolt hype.

So has Bolt or Carl Lewis won 4 Olympic Golds in a row? NOPE.
