Just as an aside I posted this video over a year ago and I have since learned much more about technique. This video places an emphasis on the differences between technical models which is useful but I can see how it can lead to some misunderstanding as well. Keep in mind that elite discus performance starts to look very similar and your focus in your own training should be on the fundamentals of technique that every thrower must have to throw far. I recommend using the Contrarian Approach as your home base for technical development understanding as well the the Ralph Maughan Article. Try to make how your body moves as efficient as possible playing to your strengths and not get lost in the minors.

Very clear to me that the Utah State and East German models, while different, both focus on huge left side blocking; whereas the linear model is all about trying to maximize conservation of linear & rotational momentum. The linear model is the model I would recommend for any "small throwers" that in no way can create the huge left side blocks that you see with the other two. I was a linear thrower, 168cm tall, yet still managed 47m+ in HS and 40m+ post-collegiate as an all-around type athlete. I always taught the linear model as it doesn't require nearly as much strength to accomplish the same thing.

For great linear technique examples, I would highlight throwers like: John Powell, Tony Washington, Eric De Bruin 👍

Cant beat the Wilkins technique. The big left arm block and reverse. I think the reverse is the result of the 70's throwers doing the glide in the shot as well. Modern technique seems to be more consistent. My best was 65.06m at 105kg bodyweight in 1979. Lacked consistency though but in those days it was more of a game than a profession.

I believe the ability to film every single throw along with us standing upon the shoulders of giants creates the consistency of todays professional throwers.

There is no difference between Linear techniques and uthay state/AKA Wilkins techniques

Yeah, there is quite a difference. If you've actually studied the throw or talked to these guys you would know that.
