I love my Weather Wool, Al's Anorak as well. Best Quality Wool Kit out there IMHO. Also Ralph stands behind his product %100. A quick tip and you probably know this. Next time your Anorak or wool gear gets wet from a dip in a stream or lake, a way we remove the water from the garment fast is to actually remove it and press it in the snow several times. Since the snow is colder than the water it will actually draw the majority of the water out of the garment like a sponge and the wool will dry even faster which will keep you warmer. Sounds strange to most folks, but works like a charm! Great review 'P' and Happy Adventuring!

Awesome video! I’m definitely interested in the anorak. I’ve watched a few videos and a common theme I hear is how expensive it is. And they’re right, it is but there should be some perspective in there too. Most people wouldn’t bat an eye at dropping $1000 on a new cellphone every couple years(I don’t care if you’re paying monthly, it still adds up). At least this USA made garment would last a life time, maybe two.

Glad you liked the video. I think you provide a great perspective on the cost; I may have spent that much in the last 5 years to replace synthetic jackets that I used regularly. I should post a follow up in a few years to test its durability. Thanks for watching!

I bought the Weather Wool All-Around Jacket at the beginning of this winter. Also made from their full weight wool. It is hands down the best piece of clothing I have ever owned. It's absolutely amazing at staying warm and keeping the weather out. I did have a little regret after hitting the order button saying to myself "did I really just spend that much on a jacket?" But the second I received it all those worries went away, the quality of the materials and the amazing craftmanship of the jacket were immediately evident. Like you said, I get a comment or question about it just about every time I wear it in public.

There’s so many ads with pictures of famous bushcraft anorak at 1/4 of the price it’s scandalous. I have a real Boreal Mountain Anorak in Loden wool and it is fantastic. For me, the Weather Wool is simply another style of garment with, probably, a better wool but the casual design would not work as well for the extreme cold that we have sometimes in my neck of the woods. The two main differences are the length in the back and the neck. There’s, in fact, a third difference, the price. Weather Wool offers a more versatile garment. It looks great, it is lighter and can be wear in fall as well as most of the winter days. The problem is that at this price I doubt I would wear it to go on my bushcraft adventures. I am still looking at it, so I may one day join my voice to the hype but for the moment I will wear some big wool sweaters in fall and my big heavy and bulky anorak in winter.

Nice review. I'm considering the Anorak or the Mountain Jacket plus Trousers. Trying to decide Heavy or Mid weight. You've got Heavy and you say wind at 20mph starts getting in? I'd hope Heavy weight would do better. More Mid weight performance in my view. I think good old Loden wool would perform as well as that. And you've used it from 30 to -30. Is that Celsius? (86 to -22 F). I'd like to know how much I could wear it in warmer weather before it has to be swapped for a windshirt. The Anorak has full side zips but closed front/ The Mountain Jacket has pit-zips plus full-front zip... The Mountain Jacket in the same Weight may be airier? It's Catch-22 I suppose: You'll get away with more in winter with the Heavy weight; and more in the summer with the Mid weight... Again, nice review. Makes me want one more...
@pardon_this_12 жыл бұрын
Rogi Bear, The jacket was indeed a heavy weight... It kept me fairly warm in temps between 30 & -30 Fahrenheit, there were someone other factors involved like the base layers and even a thin polar fleece underneath. I'm still new to wool (by the sounds of it you know more about the brands than I do). I will say I was so impressed that I bought a pair of pants... Maybe we'll have a review on that later. Thanks for watching and glad you liked it. Much aloha
@WeatherWool2 жыл бұрын
The Anorak is designed for active wear over one light layer in temps from about 25F/-4C to around 75F/24C. But that depends a lot on the person, the humidity, the base layer, the wind, the activity ... and whether FullWeight or MidWeight. Some people have reported comfort in much colder temps with only a light cotton base. People vary a LOT! The FullWeight Fabric, by design, will stop wind of about 15mph/25kph. The MidWeight about 10mph/16kph. These are design choices. The more wind-resistant, the less-breathable. Our garments are designed to breathe. People often assume WeatherWool is designed for max warmth and max wind resistance. But WeatherWool is designed for versatility. Also, 15mph/25kph, sustained wind, is a much stronger wind than most people realize. Best Regards!! --- Ralph

You can get a 100 % heavy wool coat for a 3rd of that. You could get a pair of wool pants, a shirt, and a coat all heavy-duty wool for the price of that one shirt. Think about that a moment. A heavy duty 100 % wool coat , and 100% wool pants , and a 100% shirt and socks even , for the price of that #1 shirt. Don't be the next sucker. I hear this frequently. I'll respond because some people who are not familiar with woolens, but are open-minded, might be swayed by your ignorant comments. It's really the same story all across the board, for all sorts of products. You want a car? There's a huge range of quality and price. I was thrilled with my first car. Bought for $100 (1975). It got me around! Everybody knows there is a huge range of quality and performance and resale value in cars. Not everyone knows a similar situation exists in woolens. Many people think WOOL IS WOOL. It's not. You're happy with what you got for $100? Good for you. Stick with it and enjoy it. People who seek something better are invited to try WeatherWool. They are welcome to a refund months down the road, if they aren't happy. Or even if they just need the money. Virtually nobody asks for the refund. POLAR FLEECE? Did you watch the video? @@thebigfellar7178 Actually, our margins are below industry norms. Our costs of production are very high, particularly being made in USA. The Anorak is $625, not $700, at least not yet. And you may not have considered, but merely filling an order costs us about $50. My customers are fools? You're trashing a lot of extremely experienced folks. You talk about never being cold. If that's true, you haven't been in real cold! But anyway, why assume that's what the Anorak is about? The Anorak is designed for moderate conditions ... anywhere from 70 or 80F down to 10F or 20F with a light layer or two underneath. One of the "tells" that show me people don't understand serious wool is when they focus on cold rather than versatility. Our Fabric is about versatility. Logos? We don't have anything other than the labels required by law. Nothing on the outside. How many Military Snipers shoot Savage? There may be some, but I have not heard of them.
