Thank you Al. Comparing the influence Meltzer has on the wrestling business to about 7 years ago, it’s actually decreased in terms of public awareness. If Meltzer wrote Rocky, the entire movie would be the 15 rounds of the fight.(And Rocky and Apollo would both have to have great ropework.) You would never find out anything about Rocky or Apollo outside the ring, you would never even see Adrian or Paulie at all, you would only see Mickey between rounds, when he gets in the ring to tell Rocky that this looks like it could be a five-star match. Meltzer would love it. Most people would wonder what the point was.

AEW is what happens when Meltzerism gets put into practice. I know a lot of people think Dave is on Tony's payroll but I think it's more the case of Dave having a huge emotional investment in AEW. Tony Khan learned everything he knows about wrestling from reading Dave's newsletter and is now putting all of Dave's theories about wrestling into practice. That's why I think Dave will not say anything critical about AEW and will do incredible mental gymnastics to defend AEW's booking even when it makes no sense. If you criticise AEW then you're criticising Dave's philosophy of wrestling.

I think that the younger wrestlers, being fans themselves, grew up reading and listening to Meltzer ask he gets more reverence than he should. So many people think that if things are in media, they mean more than they do. The younger guys aren’t old enough to see it clearly yet. Eventually that bad vision will go away like a hangover tomorrow afternoon.

The idea of having wrestlers with strong personalities and letting them play off of each other to determine how the angle goes could be interesting, but that’s not what’s happening here and he’s either lying to himself or too dumb to realize it. Toni Storm is a heel that the fans cheer anyway, so instead of making her a babyface and giving her people she can beat which will encourage that reaction, they just let her ruin all their female babyfaces because they can’t get over against her.

When you tube wrestling channels took off over ten years ago the biggest channels were meltzer marks and that made his word gospel.
