Space Harrier Longplay (Arcade) [60 FPS]: Tackle the perils of the Fantasy Zone in this high-speed shooter from Sega! Read the video description for my review!

This was actually an arcade machine?
@ozymandias1758 Жыл бұрын
@@SavicksterTheTrixter oh yeah.. it was groundbreaking for it's time, for it's graphics, fast action, music and the visual style. Like the dark chaotic side of Alice in wonderland, but cheerfully upbeat with it's colors and unforgettable main theme. I remembering gawking at the action on the screen as a kid, wondering ok WTF is This?
1985 jeez I guess children back then looked at this game just like I looked at Crysis in 2007. With jaw dropped.

Great game, I used to play it in the arcade back in the day! Interesting fact about the arcade game itself: The only Space Harrier model SEGA built was a full-motion cabinet. You sit in it and hydraulics move you around as you play. Other Sega full-motion games existed as well: Outrun (in 3 different cabinet styles) and Afterburner (2 cabinet styles). Since Space Harrier was so massive and the hydraulics weren't really built to last, surviving games are extremely rare.

I always loved the artistic direction behind this protagonist: "So there's this guy - he flies around everywhere by sticking a rocket under his arm and riding it like he's seated at one of those student desks with the stupid flip-up armrests. Oh, and the rocket shoots massive fuck-off lasers out the front. And he looks like he escaped from Space Adventure Cobra." "GENIUS."

Even kids today who grew up w/ super powerful polygon graphics would prob. admit this game looks cool
@ender81662 жыл бұрын
@@jasoncrandall5320 My dad goes to say how some old polygon-y game from the 90s still looks nice even today, but goes to say some indie game with the same graphics looks bad because of the graphics.

My friend had that one, too. We were big fans of the coin op version, and were psyched to be able to play at home all day!

It's amazing how faithful the SMS version is, so much so that you can play one and apply what you've learned to the other.

Welcome to the fantasy zone get ready!! I always thought it was way ahead of its time in the mid 80’s. Good game but it was a difficult game and swallowed you money. So often chose to play something easier so I had a lot more play time my £2 pocket money didn’t go far back then.
Such an amazing 36 year old SEGA game... especially when compared to My Hero.

must be a good 35ish years plus from them old days in the arcade and making 3.25 hr... I remember spending 30$ on mostly this game (sit down version moved around).. imo this was the most immersive game of its time when you moved the stick the world moved and was soo smooth - though I still say its a rocket under his arm

Love your mini review by the way! I love this game like a little robotic puppy and remember waaaay back playing the full motion version in an arcade on Ryde seafront circa 1986 - I got real good at it and could finish it on 20p - it was 20p/3 lives or 50p for 8 lives - and I always had crowds of hot Scandinavian language students watching, perfect for the 15 year old me. The Harrier for adrenaline and the Swedish girls for the testosterone. - Glorious times, loved it.

Wow I use to avoid it as I was crap at it and would swallow all my pocket money. I thought it was quite a difficult game but ahead of its time. I stuck with double dragon or bubble bobble…lol

Stage 4 Cecil::: it starts out with the song "I Got A New Attitude"...when did that song come out??? Space Harrier stole the song and used it in the game!
