Alabama has an "internal culture" problem. The players in recent years do not come to Alabama because of what they can do for the Crimson Tide, but rather for what the Crimson Tide can do for them. They do not reflect the history, legacy, and values of the Tide, in their attitude and their performance; and perhaps most troubling of all, the new head coach does not seem to possess or understand, and engender, among the players and coaches, these characteristics himself. This is a fundamental problem which threatens to reduce the Crimson Tide to a mediocre football team, not only for this season, but over the years to come. I fear that this critical factor for the continued success of the football program was not considered in the head coach hiring process and decision. Football in the South, in the SEC, especially in Alabama, is unlike football anywhere else in the country. The standard for Alabama is unique in the country in this way: anything less than a national championship is considered a failure. The Alabama football ecosystem expects to win championships. The Crimson Tide stakeholders, will not accept a lower standard of performance. Alabama has neither pro-football, pro-basketball, nor major league baseball. What puts Alabama on the map in the United States is the Crimson Tide. When the rest of the country mentions Alabama, the next word or phrase spoken is "The Tide" or "Roll Tide." The athletic director who hired the coach needs to have a heart to heart conversation with the head coach. He may not be the person to lead this unique football program. He may not have the style, the personality, the temperament required to ensure the legacy is upheld. The head coach of the Crimson Tide must have more than a high level of football knowledge and an excellent record; he must understand the context in which he operates, in the Southern Region of the US, that football in Alabama in embedded in the culture of the state, and embody the spirit of the Alabama Crimson Tide, as represented in the coaches Bear Bryant and Nick Saban. This problem must be addressed, and it must be addressed directly and immediately, as more than the current season is at risk.

Agree 100%, Bama's culture has shifted the last 5 recruiting classes. Good players, but very entitled and not as locked in as those 2008-2018 classes.

They remain the most formidable fighting force on earth because every new recruit is indoctrinated with the legacy of the Corps throughout its history, and the Corps' values, and that they must uphold that legacy every time they are called upon to go into action. If Alabama takes the right action, they can continue to be successful, beyond the Saban era, under the right leadership. I simply cannot say whether or not Debore is the right leader. I hope for the sake of the Tide, the University, and the state of Alabama, that he is.

A safety from Michigan that didn't get starts until the end of last season. And Malachi Moore, who was displaced by Brian Branch until last season. Linebacker corp has a couple players with expe and a couple players getting playing time for the first time. Fans like you give Alabama fans a bad name.

Steven, these kids can’t tackle, leave players wide open, the D line can’t stop the run or rush the passer. Sometimes it’s the kids and not the coaches. These players have to sit down and work this out! Milroe is a leader, well he has to play like one! Malachi and Lawson need to speak up. Let the RB run! Stop all the Milroe runs unless you have to, our RBs will be leaving at the end of the year if we don’t use them.

Our defense hasn’t been this bad on defense in a while. If they don’t create turnovers, it is a struggle for them to get off the field. They are arm tackling because they are trying to rip the ball. They need to wrap up when they tackle, and they need to have better focus. That is coaching. The talent is there.

I’m not knocking Deboer or his style of coaching … yet. Even Saban was churning out teams without that dominant, killer edge at the end. I think that’s the new era of NCAA football. But they still went out to work. I do however question the DC. The guys look unprepared.

S. Smith, if you can’t use that same “energy” in the press room, don’t use it here. Coach Saban left the program right after losing to Michigan. Causing an exodus of two of the biggest names on Alabamas roster (Bonds and Downs). Coach Deboer was tasked with not only with retaining a decent roster but having to recruit new players. That being said, this is his first season with the Tide so considering the circumstances in which he was hired, he deserves some latitude and respect. Coach Deboer is not Coach Saban. Saban left the team, remember. Let it go. Eventually Coach Deboer will realize what he was hired to do and changes will be made. Until then, let’s hope the players realize that they hold the key to remembering what is expected from them.

He's calling out the defense and that's fine but the offense isn't finishing drives. We're throwing balls out of the end zone for safeties, throwing boneheaded passes into double coverage and O linemen basically standing up and not blocking anyone.
