The Alabama Hills are a formation of rounded rocks and eroded hills set between the jagged peaks of the Sierra Nevada and the Owens Valley.
Since the 1920s, the natural beauty of the Alabama Hills has served as the backdrop in over 400 movies, including How the West Was Won, Tremors, Gladiator, Iron Man, and so many more.
Popular things to do in Alabama Hills are rock-climbing and hiking, and the trail to Mobius Arch is certainly a well-trodden path.
This short and easy trail brings visitors to a scenic viewpoint where the arch perfectly frames Mt Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous United States.
Because the hills are BLM land, free camping is permitted in specified areas.
Pay attention to signs that indicate areas that are accessible for day use only, otherwise park your camper or pitch a tent where you see fit!
If you want to have a fire, be sure that you have a campfire permit.
These are free and can be obtained from the visitors center in Lone Pine, just a few miles away.
Stay up late for some incredible stargazing, and then rise before dawn to see the sun light up the Sierra Nevada.
