Adana, Turkey cold winter of'64. I would lay in my upper bunk bed under a scratchy wool blanket and stare at that comforting blue flame in the dark. The little pops and clicks that Aladdin made was a lullaby to my ears and put me to sleep. And yes... I boiled water for macaroni and cheese on top of the lid!

@@craftyjunker6298 can this be used inside the house too? I live on a tiny rock (27km by 14km) in the Mediterranean, where the locals lived in fucking caves up until 200 yrs ago! And central heating pretty much doesn't exist on the island. The more modern buildings will usually have A/C units in the main rooms that will also blow hot air. The super rich have got oil central heating, not sure if gas central heating even exists (I'll have to Google that now), but I don't know anyone with central heating, and I've been living here 3yrs now! We use the 'SER' portable gas heaters but I would imagine this is more efficient and economic, right? Is the smell of kerosene that bad that you couldn't keep it on for too long in not-so-well ventilated rooms?

@@Truther2001 I am only providing information and am not saying to do anything without research things on your own further. I know people do use them inside. You have to have good ventilation though. Also, the smell has never bothered me because I keep my heater wick in good condition, have good ventilation, and use good clean fuel.

The most famous product in Iraq after the Hanging Gardens😊 They used it back in the day for almost everything, warming up food and bread or even making omelette, making soft egg by heating it up on the side or on the top cover, even using the side and top as an iron for drying clothes.! and God knows what else, . And of course it was the best friend to families in the winter.

I just pulled one out of my 97yr old grandfathers shed, he said he only used it a couple times while camping at the lake years ago. It was still in the original box. It’s gonna keep my porch warm this winter!

My mom was going through some old stuff of my great grandparents (now passed) and asked me if I wanted a pair of old heaters. I knew nothing about them but just thought they looked cool. Since then, I haven’t used them and I have nearly thrown them away several times because I didn’t know what I had! Thank you for sharing your find and this over view. I will definitely be using these this winter! Can’t beat free!

Brilliant video thank you. I've just bought one of these and it will be my only form of heating this winter, so it was wonderful to watch this. Mine cost £40 in a flea market in Buckingham, UK. Am excited to get it and use it. I have no idea where to get a spare wick from though.

I bought one in really good shape today for only 5 dollars,that was a great buy indeed. It is the same model as yours. I got 2 other large heathers this month for free. one has been used one time and the largest one who is made in Japan is also in great shape.

@@craftyjunker6298 yes it was a great buy inndeed😄 i dont think they even knew what it was. Flea markets can be great places to buy this kind of stuff sometimes. I will use it in my forge👍🏻 just loves all things that burns. And in these strange times we live in,it is a good idea to have some options. The electriscity is super expensive and it is sometimes gone for hours to days and the winters are cold in Norway. And they look so cool to👍🏻

Very well made units mine is a S681U Equator II. Easy to change wick just rotate Counter-clockwise until tab up from latch then pull knob out to release wick holder collapse wick inwardly from pins reverse with new wick. It took me 2 tries to adjust wick height corectly 3/8inch exposed when fully to right knob (3X wick number)

Sometimes things aren't made like they used to be - SO TRUE. I have an assortment of Aladdin lamps and the best era of those were from the 1940's. The new ones selling now are ok but made with inferior metal and mass produced NOT in a 1st world country. The wick trimmer in point for the blue flame heater - the old ones were made of brass and cut like a knife, new ones are of plastic and just not up to par in any stretch of the imagination. If only kerosene were as cheap as it was back in the day... Good luck on the wick trimmer video and may your heater burn clean and hot!

How do you turn it off? Is it as simple and turning down the wick and blowing it out?

Very nice heater at a bargain price. I paid more for shipping than what you paid. Top lid and chimney section are porcelain steel and will not take a paint job easily. Also , soon as the wick starts to burn you can close it up, gently. That way it will not smoke and stink as bad. I have a model 37 among others.

Doug Abbott : Thanks for the comment and advice. Yeah, this heater has been great. Someone else told me that it will be hard to paint. I think I may leave it as is; it still looks very nice. I did discover something, though, the wick trimmer is not very good at all. I had to end up cleaning the wick by hand with my knife. That will be my next video.

Thats a real nice looking heater. I'm looking for one like that. I have an aladdinette 2, it works really well but not as sexy looking as this unit. I run mine on bioethanol which burns cleanly indoors and doesn't smell.

Can you run a kerosene heater on bioethanol? If so, that would be great, cause ethanol is cheap where I live and that type of heater would save me quite a lot of money during winter.

Great video. I just got one used for $60 it is overall pretty nice but needs a new wick and has a few spots of missing paint like yours but that is fine. The handle is like plain metal so I might spray paint the handle thingy with high heat paint. The one issue I have is trying to figure out how to flush out the fuel tank. I filled with hot soapy water but it is still not that nice. Any ideas?

That’s awesome that you got your hands on one of these great little heaters. I hope my video helps you change out your wick. I agree that flushing the tank has got to be difficult. The only thing that I can think of is to use one of the fuel transfer pumps to try and remove the fuel. The pumps should be found in the same section of the hardware state that deals with kerosene heaters.

Hi I have one of these just bought it on eBay for cleaning the tank I used a water based degreaser the stuff you use to clean your patio use with boiling water fill it about half full swill it around occasionally and leave it in till it cools empty out through the filler cap it gets all that gunk out and leaves it squeeky clean.And to make it easier take off those four dome bolts and drop the tank out of the frame so much easier that way.

Mine is different. It's the same size and color but no fuel gauge and the opening lever is different. Mine is from 1960. I have the owners manual. Wheres the best place to get a wick? Thanks

I don’t know how sensitive your nose is because I think there will always be a bit of a smell. I think your best bet is to minimize it by burning good fuel, having a good wick that is burning at the correct height, and leaving some airflow in the room.

So when I started using kerosene heaters I made some mistakes. The biggest one was not having a good wick that was set to a proper height. The improper wick would cause a bad odor and sometimes black smoke to come out. Now that we are taking about the wicks, you have to trim them once in awhile to get the char off the end. I just raise my wick and take a raspe and gently trim off the charred end. I need to make a video of that. There is a special wick trimmer, I have one, it doesn’t work well. Now if you are using fiberglass wicks, once about every five tanks you have to clean burn those. Clean burning means letting it burn completely out and then relight the wick so that the charred ends burn off. That eliminated a lot of smells and burning issues. I clean burn all my fiberglass wicks after about five tank fulls. www.milesstair.com/Kero_Heater_wicks.html If your friend just got some heaters, they may want to try clean burning the wick or just change it. With this specific heater a properly adjust and clean wick should burn nice and blue all the way around. Finally the fuel. K-1 kerosene from a good place is important. I say “a good place” because sometimes that can be subjective. Some farming stores have kerosene in old tanks and it is just labeled “kerosene” not K-1 kerosene. I use the pink K-1 kerosene from a Shell Gas Station from an actual pump. K-1 is key. You can use the fuel that is clear K-1 from the stores but that stuff is way over priced. I hope this helps.

No. I am in the US. I know that in some countries kerosene is called paraffin. Maybe that will help.

So I could never find a model number on it. I had to search and search all over the internet for old manuals. Eventually I found one online. I highly recommend milesstair.com, because the site has so many references for old or obsolete heaters. Also that website has of the old manuals that you can view and compare your heater to.
