been thinking about getting one of these.... I have a gas heater, but gas is getting bloody dear.... (living on the Bōsō Penninsular, so not as warm as Shizuoka in winter it seems). nice looking home you have! nice laid-back video too..... thanx.

Thank you for the kind words. Lucky you to be living in Boso! I do recommend the Aladdin and the dual function of cooking/heating. Treat it well and you should get a lifetime out of it. Thanks and don’t hesitate to ask should you have any questions !

@@shizuokaBLUES thank you. no questions at present but.... just to say that I came across a comment of yours somewhere and was intrigued by your user-name. so came for a look. I imagine Shizuoka is a good spot, certainly climate-wise. I am next the briny though, so always a breeze/wind, my natural (and only) air-conditioning. but I certainly need heating in the daytime in winter.

You leave a pot of water on the top for humidity, but kerosene heaters like propane or butane heaters give off moisture as part of the combustion process. They are often criticised as moist heat.
@shizuokaBLUES3 жыл бұрын
Japanese winters are incredibly dry. We have small humidifiers here and there in the house as well, so that the tropical plants stay moist. This is just another one.
@COIcultist3 жыл бұрын
@@shizuokaBLUES Really! I must express my shock. Living in the UK I can't envisage small islands having a dry winter, dry isn't a word you would associate with winter here. Mind you, you are 15 to 20 degrees south of us. You learn something every day. Many thanks!

@@COIcultist thanks and yes I know what you mean, having grown up on the wild, West coast of Canada. Couldn’t believe how dry Honshu was when I moved here. We received rain yesterday and a little last week but had gone five weeks with nary a cloud in the sky. Now if I could have your summers and our winters, that would be perfect. @@shizuokaBLUES 35 degrees North but costal. What are your summers like?
@shizuokaBLUES3 жыл бұрын
@@COIcultist our summers here in Shizuoka are about four months long but broken down into two parts that usually overlap. Mid or late June sees the humidity soar and then the rainy season begins. It lasts six to eight weeks (or longer) and is near-constant smothering of very low pressure grey skies, rain, and intense heat. Days hover around 32-36 and the mold in the bathroom and kitchen begins unless it’s constantly tended to. Then that clears in late July or early August, which is followed by intense heat but clearer skies. Mid September is very nice. Autumn beautiful, as is late spring

I absolutely love the design of this heater. Some questions though. What happens to the wick if it runs out of fuel overnight? I heard some people say it's good to "dry burn" and others say you can't do it on an Aladdin heater. Is this heater hard to maintain? Thanks!
@shizuokaBLUES4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I love it too. If the heater runs out of fuel, the wick suffers a little and needs to be cleaned off at the top, which you can do with the tool which Aladdin provides. I have done it a couple times over the years myself. It doesn't do much damage but you wouldn't want to do it often. No its not hard to maintain at all. I have replaced the wick twice in 8 years, and just replaced the "window panes" last year. other than that, there has been nothing else. Its a very good reliable product.
@sandys97914 жыл бұрын
An Aladdin heater uses a full cotton wick. If allowed to burn dry the cotton will burn. Modern kerosene heater wicks all have a fiberglass top section. The fiberglass will not burn down if run dry and it actually is necesary to do as periodic maintenance to burn off carbon deposits. I have a toyotomi sundowner with a cotton wick and it's running great on ultra low sulphur diesel with a little isopropyl alcohol in it.
@brucesheehe63058 күн бұрын
These heaters are cool but have a cotton wick. Newer style Kero heaters have a fiberglass wick which can be burnt dry to clean them. If you burn a cotton wick dry, you will ruin it. Fiberglass wicks last indefinitely, but cotton wicks need periodic replacement and maintenance.

hey thanks much! well, I've had a quick look on Amazon and eBay and neither has one for sale. I know that shipping from Japan would be outrageously expensive. I have one made in England but it did not cost as much as the one you have. I trimmed the wick and it has a blue flame but it gives a unpleasant odor. It does not set my CO2 detector off or my smoke detector. I am using K1 kerosene and I use it in another heater and no problems. Anybody know what may cause it?
@shizuokaBLUES3 жыл бұрын
Mine certainly smells bad if I don’t clean it thoroughly. I take off the wick housing and use a thick steel pot scrubber to get rid of all the black soot. I wonder how clean the various metal parts are?
