You may have to press the blue button for 10 seconds to beep it twice and then press the grey button to beep it twice. This will reset the device. Now try to connect to wifi using the app. Delete the door and add it back if needed. I have model 2128.

This worked pretty easily but I was ahead in the game. Had already installed a wifi booster pod in the bedroom next to the garage because I have a generator connected to wifi right outside that bedroom. No doubt the signal would have been too weak if I didn't have that pod. Couldn't connect the generator until I got that pod. Since I had that it worked perfectly in no time at all!!!

I have an Android Device. After I connect to the gdoctl wifi, the app fails to find my original wifi, which has full signal.

Installed the 7155 model and couldn't get it to connect to wifi. It would go through all the steps, finding my wifi but it would never ask for a password so would never connect. The fix was to go through the steps and instead of selecting your wifi network from the list select the option to fill in your own SSID and password. Connected right away after that.

I followed all these steps but I can't get it to come online. More details should be provided about what wifi connection works with this opener. The app doesn't see my wifi even though the router is 5 feet from the opener and my smartphone connects and surfs through the router. My router can do a variety of connections using Network Authentication security modes WPA/WPA2/WPA3 along with WPA Algorithms CCMP-128(AES)/CCMP-256/GCMP/GCMP-256. I'm also using a VPN on my home network (Wireguard). For now the wifi on my opener is inop. Also, I wonder if the wifi board can be upgraded to 5 GHz (preferred) or dual band. They installed a 3120L and comes with Aladdin connect but no QR is visible. I entered the serial number but when I input that into the app, it says it isn’t a valid serial.

No there is not. The audible and visual signals represent that this device is UL Certified. These alerts are required, to ensure if you operate the garage door while away from the garage, a warning is sent to anyone or anything near the garage door to warn them the door is about to move. Yes the 2128 is a unit with WIFI, you should see a red light on the motorhead under the light cover if it hasn't been set up.

Suggestion for the app, prompt the user to connect to their 2.4 network when beginning the installation process. My smartphone connects to my 5 network and other than this video, I had no idea I needed to switch to my 2.4.

It needs a different serial number for Aladdin Connect. Just scan the QR code on the front page of your owners manual and that should do it.

@@garytalpers6906 Unless you misplaced the owners manual and then you're screwed and there's nothing you can do about it per Genie tech support. They should have also placed a sticker on the unit. The odds of someone keeping their manual for a length of time aren't very good.

@@syriako I spoke with Aladdin and they said if you lose your manual, you are completely shit out of luck and they will not help you. I told them I would make this information known to everyone. It's incredibly poor technical support since the majority of us will most likely have no clue where the garage door manual is in a year or two. They should have put the stick on the actual garage door unit as well as in the manual, it's called common sense.

Guys if you bought your 7155 from Costco and find only 14 digit open the the other side cover you will find 15 digit and the QR find out this lucky way enjoy !!!!

The 2028 does not have integrated Aladdin Connect. You would need to add the Aladdin Connect kit for your unit to work with a smart phone

Kinda weird... I installed a new Opener, replaced an old genie with a 3053 in early 2024. I was pleasantly surprised that all my old controls worked with the New Opener. The outside keypad and every control I had no matter the age, programmed and worked with the new one. Cool that I could download the app and use my smartfone too. Until last month. My smartfone wanted to update the app (or the app told the phone it needed to be updated). So, of course I did the update. Over the next 3 weeks, I would get locked out of my garage and nothing worked. I would unplug the opener and it would reset and it was OK for a couple days. Then it would shut down again. I could always get it to work from the button inside, but would not reconnect with my phone unless I unplugged it and plugged it back in. I came to the conclusion it started because of the update. I soon found out that anytime I used an old control (4 cars), that was when it messed up. Keypad and some other controls were 20 years old, those were the culprits. I bought a new outside keypad and put the older controls away, and have not had a failure in 2 weeks. I looked on-line for any similar instances and found none. Hope this helps someone.

I installed the opener, installed the app, connected to wifi. Opener works with remotes, keypads. When I use the app to open/close the door, it just keeps saying "Requesting Open", the animation plays, but nothing happens to to garage door.

I recently changed Internet providers. All my wi-fi connected devices accepted the new wi-fi, except the Aladdin garage door opener. This is the third time that after power failures or changing Internet providers your garage door opener will give me a hard time at installation. I have spent over 2 hours trying to follow instructions posted on your website and your video. Nothing works. I cannot talk to anyone from your company when I call. ALL MY DEVICES ARE CONNECTED. Your instructions do not help. HELP!!!

If you haven't yet bought this piece of junk, don't. It's the fussiest piece of wi-fi enabled garbage I've ever seen. The instructions are a joke. There are mystery lights and buttons that are clearly trying to tell me something every time this piece of junk gets disconnected from my network. Sadly, like so many other things in this whole mess, aren't addressed anywhere. I'm getting a red, blue, green flashing sequence from TWO sets of lights. Anything from Aladdin on that? Nope. Every time the network goes down, I'm in for a two hour festival of misery trying to reconnect this awful thing. What a sad piece of garbage.

Great video but its too bad that it didnt actually work. Clicked the button and got a blue light, but after literally every single troubleshooting technique imaginable, it still times out while trying to connect to wifi. Not really sure why you dont put any effort into your app, especially when the app is required in order to use its wireless function. Why do i bother buying a Aladdin Connect garage door opener if you're literally not even going to give a shit about the software that runs it? Last update October 2018, really? I have 2 openers and neither of them connect.

@@GenieCompany Didnt even realize you replied, but no i am not going to call again. I literally spent a total of 3.5 hours on the phone with so-called "specialists" who are not trained enough to know how the products work. I got lucky once, and one person told me to connect to the garage door openers broadcasted wifi on my phone and type "192.168.1.1" into my web browser and manually entered my wifi info and it worked. I have no idea why in the hell that troubleshooting process was not available ANYWHERE. Probably could save your customer service representatives alot of time if you actually provided your customers with the proper instructions.

After struggling with this I finally got it right. This video sucks. It does not tell you to turn off cell data (airplane mode) and then turn back on WIFI. Oh yeah I have an android. Don't know about Apple. Also why does the video tell you to get the app first? Install the opener first then proceed with the app.

The Genie iOS app is tragic. By far the most common rating is one star. I convinced a friend to buy the Genie unit but can't make the wifi work for her. Maybe an ambitious class action law firm can convince Overhead Door to make it work.

The actual garage door opener will connect to your home's Wi-Fi network. The Aladdin App on your smartphone will work from anywhere. So you can open/close the door from anywhere, you can send virtual keys to other users from anywhere, and you can create rules to schedule the door to close from anywhere. :)

After joining the genie wifi network and pressing Next, getting "Error while trying to fetch available networks" with only options to Cancel Setup or Try Again which just repeats Error nonstop. EDIT: Never mind, it seems to have resolved itself after sitting on the network for several minutes.

I found that you have to have 2.4Ghz on your home network. Will not work with 5Ghz. Once in app have your phone also connected to 2.4Ghz. Than it worked flawlessly.

I had to disable my 5G Wi-Fi and when it had the suggestions of Wi-Fi in my area, I had to click I don’t see my Wi-Fi and then, even though I have WPA2 I had to use WPA because WPA2 does not seem to be compatible even though it’s an option. Also, I found that if I hold the Blue button and wait for it to beep twice and then hold the gray button and wait for it to beep twice then it will reset it and then I have to leave the app in order for it to reset itself and then come back again and also I had to remove the auto joint on my Wi-Fi but having it on cellular while I was doing, it was still ok. I hope I never have to do this again. It took me about two hours to test every option.

If Alexa can't Discover the opener: Open Alexa/ More/Skills & Games/ search (top right magnifying glass) for Genie Aladdin Connect/ Enable (you will be prompted from here)... **However, if Alexa still not working Then Disable skill (It will clear screen) and the Enable option will open (follow prompts).
