after having seen the live action aladdin and this with a few other aladdin fan covers and recalling a small little animated movie called "Aladdin and the Amazing Lamp" to even rewatching Magi the anime, these kind of new changes would've helped the movie a lot more in standing out as not only an homage to the original but doing what a remake should do, telling the story with new elements implemented with new kinds of twists.
