I suspect you may be local to me. I live near Southwold/Halesworth. Let me know if you fancy a game.

Thanks Simon, i may well be in touch. Always easier to learn new rules/games playing them with the help of the designer or someone who has played before. I/my small group are local to you so i am sure we could sort something. Perhaps i can drop you a line offline? All the best james

Thanks, I'm not that much into hoplite warfare (prefer phalanx & maniple) but saying that I have recently got a few titles covering this (GBOH Alex and a game from Relative Range) so looking forward to your thoughts post-battle 😁

I played a few games of 'Alala!' with Simon and others during its development and I can confirm it makes a fun game with a distinct flavour of Greek Hoplite warfare. Light troops are annoying, and can weaken the phalanxes prior to engagement, but it is the clash of spear on hoplon where a game/battle is decided. I made the mistake of neglecting the gods in my last game, instead rushing to get my phalanxes to advance against their foes, and paid the price for only concentrating on earthly matters. Proper sacrifices will be made next time! ;-)

Thanks for watching and your comments. Looking forward to playing this one and loving the gods element adding some nice chrome. I like simons rule writing style so sure it will be a fun game :)

Still looking for a set of hoplite rules that are actually interesting. This seems quite promising, especially given the author's previous works, which I've enjoyed. At the very least, perhaps I can field my hoplites on the table again! Thanks for your quick review.

Hi Tony thanks for watching. Gave this game a run out friday and we had a lot of fun.....definitely buckets of dice at times, but a lot of depth, strategy and chrome to the rules. Well worth a look :)

Really simple yet nuanced set of rules. I can see a lot of use of these and with some adjustments I am sure could be used for Dark Age battles too (sorry Simon 🙂)
