great video! been an oakland resident for a few years now after living in sf for a decade. love visiting alameda and especially phnom penh noodle house because it reminds me so much of cambodian food back home in long beach. oakland and alameda really remind me of long beach and i love it so much. cant wait to try fikscue! havent had indonesian food since i visited amsterdam several years ago. love the name of the channel by the way, really tug at the heart strings and made me tear up because food is so essential to our asian culture and identity. subscribed!

Your food shots, local take on what’s good, focus on the people behind the food, and even your soundtrack are always such a welcome addition to my KZbin feed. Keep the great recommendations coming, they’re a great to-do list for locals and visitors alike! Meanwhile I’ll be rocking my Did You Eat Yet tote bag around the farmers market 🎉 thank you Victor!

I have been an Alameda resident since 2001. It’s so great that you’re highlighting some great spots to eat. I have eaten at these places except for Fikscue which I really want to try. Bhan Mae Vane is one of my favorite places and has very good appetizers, and you can always get a delicious bowl of pho at Sidestreet.

Fikscue looks soo good. I have been following them on IG and salivating. Hearing that they are opening an SF location in 2025 made me so happy. I originally found out about them because I was looking for somewhere that offered rendang, but then their texas BBQ looked the most legit that I have seen in the Bay. Can't wait to try it.

Seeing the food scene in Alameda, as an Oakland resident, I'm super happy about it. At this point, I'm quite worrying about Oakland's food scene. My FB sends me monthly restaurant updates in Oakland and Berkeley, you can see ones in Oakland closes 1 after another. I've been following on your video and wonder if any of the restaurant owners talk about what may take them back to opening restaurants in Oakland? Same thing happens with Oakland Chinatown. Now with all the crime worries, Chinatown is pretty much dead after 4pm daily.

Alameda gets slept on - one of the best places to grub and drink in the Bay Area for sure. A place I am surprised didn't get mentioned was East Ocean Seafood & stellar dim sum spot IMO... though technically not South East Asian so probably not in this video perse since emphasis was on food from that part of the world

@@HiDidYouEatYet Yeah, I think that's def. the highlight and what distinguishes this bbq from others. I didn't know Texas BBQ can be this good till my last business trip (also my first time) visiting Austin. A lot of people think that I'm missing the whole point on the smoke turkey breast is my favor in Terry Black but IMO it's the bomb. Perhaps just cuz I'm a 1.5 Cantonese immigrant (came to the US when I was 17 while parents had to restart after their 50's without knowing any English), I find the best way to enjoy beef is always just salt and pepper. I don't like any bbq sauce either...
@HiDidYouEatYet3 ай бұрын
lol had a similar experience going to Austin for the first time back in like 2016-2017 for a work trip and trying brisket for the first time and was absolutely blown away. Texas BBQ is really something else

@@HiDidYouEatYet And interestingly, while spying on what exactly is the local favor with Uber Drivers (yes, they love T. Black too but with so many people, they rather go locally or just do things in their own backyard), they pointed out some of the local favor with this Egyptian guy doing great BBQ plus LORO, Cantonese/Malaysian inspired new style of BBQ. We didn't get to try them but you can tell how crazy the bbq food scene is.
