Yeah, but Toby Keith's " Courtesy of the Red White and Blue", took care of that, and rightfully so. I'm not taking away anything from Alan Jackson song, but we should be angry over what happened on that day.

@@kenp.9762 It's not healthy to live with so much anger. Cold, hard, and calculated destruction of evil in the world doesn't require anger, just determination. God Bless America.

@wildfireintexas ... Do you really think that members of Al Queda, Isis, and the Taliban really care about living in anger? Yet, somehow they manage to keep trekking on. That's the whole idea of TERRORISM, they want to alter our free way of living. And the two ways we deal with it are, sympathy, and anger.... both have their place, and their purpose. Don't think for one minute, that the "oh, it's ok, we forgive you" attitude will get these evil people to stop what they are doing. Now, a few B-52s, dropping a half-dozen bombs on their cave in the side of that mountain, now THAT might work !!! And, like i said... I like Mr. Jackson's work....but did he ever go and see the troops stationed overseas? And I'm not just talking 'glad-handing' the high ranking officers. Check out "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue".... Actual footage of Toby actually going through a training session, INCLUDING jumping out of an airplane. Toby BACKS UP our troops, doesn't just sing about them !!!!!
@kenp.97625 жыл бұрын
@@@wildfireintexas ... To not give a shit about the terrorists, is the same as saying, just let them go on, hurting our troops... Your passive bullshit way of dealing with terrorism, will just get all of our troops killed.

How did he not ball his eyes out when singing this? I can’t imagine being in that room. So powerful
@Takwakin404 жыл бұрын
As a singer, who has sung at funerals of friends and family, you don't look directly at anyone. If you see the emotion or catch someone's eyes at a time when their emotions are laid bare, you could never finish the song. You hold that stuff tight and then let your emotion come through your voice. There's always time for cryin' when the music stops.
@sunshinejividen28323 жыл бұрын
@@Takwakin40 You are so right. In 1988 when I was 16, my mother passed away unexpectedly from a stroke. I was an only child (female), so when she died, it was just me & my dad. I was in our church choir but every 2 or 3 Sundays in church, I would sing a solo before the sermon. 2 weeks after my mom died, I sang "If These Walls Could Speak", by Amy Grant. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rH_dqIR_bsqGd7c The song had only been released for 5 months at the time, so nobody in our church was familiar with it except me, because I had bought the 'karaoke' (instrumental) tape a couple of months earlier. Practicing the song *alone* in my room, it took me about a dozen times to even get all the way through it without breaking down, because the lyrics could not have been more perfect at describing what it was like in our home now, with my mom being gone and it being just my dad & I. Anyways, that Sunday, I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown and almost backed out, but deep down, I didn't want to back out because I wanted my dad to hear the lyrics, because of the message of the song. Up in front of everyone, as the intro started & I glanced at my dad & grandma (my moms' mom), my grandma was already crying & my dad was doing everything he could to keep from breaking down, too. I picked a spot on the wall wayyyy up by the front door to be my focal point to avoid looking at everyone in the congregation because I knew if I saw them break down, I was going to, too. It was the longest 5 minutes and 40'some seconds of my life. When the song was over, I looked over at my dad & grandma, who were both bawling. From the rest of the congregation, all I could hear as I was walking back to my seat, was sniffling and nose blowing, lol. When I sat down and looked around the church, everyone had been crying. I didn't notice it while I was up there, because I had done exactly what you said....avoid eye contact. It works. 👍🏻😭

I remember watching the CMA's that night and being speechless when he was done singing this song. I came across it again this afternoon while listening to his songs as background music and it struck me that here we are 18 years later and we, as a society, have lost our way. We have forgotten about the love and respect that we showed towards one another after this tragedy...we cared for each another regardless of gender, race, religion, political view, sexual preference, North, South, East or West. We treated ourselves as if we were all the human race. The Patriotism was unbelievable. We worked together. Of course we will never forget the tragedy of that day and all of the lives lost. The absolute hell that people went through and we did whatever we could to help each other get some sense of normalcy back in the "day to day" lives..but sadly, we did forget the solidarity, respect, and love we showed towards each other. We donated our time, money, we stood in lines for hours to donate blood, clothing, and food and here we are now 18 years later...more divided than ever. We forgot how to treat one another.

Douglas, brilliant writing. My heart is in your words. I too remember the national love and unity and see now how political forces have driven us apart. All I can do is hope and pray for us to gather, unite and move our great country back to total acceptance. We are all different and that makes the world go round. Do not fear someone who is not like you. Relish in our diversity. And Love.
@JohnJJ12214 жыл бұрын
Couldn’t have said it better.. Political views have blinded everyone and once again it takes tragedy to open hearts I’ll never understand this concept.. it goes back to the old saying you do t know what you have until it’s gone. I get that we are all guilty of this but to treat one another the way we are today is pretty baffling.. Us it the technology that is isolating us? Is it the conveniences at our disposal? Is it all too much? We have spoiled ourselves and in this day and age. Is it too much to ask to just treat one another w respect because hey in the end we all go out the way we came in.. Let’s not complicate this life anymore than it needs to be.. Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us and the greatest is Love! So simple yet so complicated it seems for the masses.

I was 33 years old when the 9/11 attacks happened. Seeing all the chaos, all the frightened people, and all the death and destruction, was a total nightmare. Nowadays, our country is being attacked again, but in a different way. The old-fashioned values that so many of us have held dear for so long are under serious attack. As a conservative Christian woman, this just rubs me the wrong way! Never in all of my 51- almost 52 years - have I seen America in such a mess!I I love this country. I was born and raised in this country. And I am sick of what's been going on for the past several years! This is not the America that I and many others grew up in. I want my country back! This heartfelt song by Alan Jackson just speaks volumes about what so many of us felt on 9/11. I wish this song was back on the radio. I remember going into Atlanta & watching newspapers or trash blowing across the empty streets like tumbleweeds & the overwhelming silence of a nearly deserted city. Wondering if my son & I would die in a crash caused by an airplane.

On September 11th 2001 I went to Walmart and I bought big vinyl letter stickers and with them put: “LAND OF THE FREE, HOME OF THE BRAVE” on the top of the tailgate of my bright red 1984 F150. That truck was a plain truck with a 300-6 and a 4 speed and it just wouldn’t die.

This song made me swell with pride. This song made me proud to be an American after 9/11, but it really made me think of others and what they were dealing with.

This is the first time he played his song and the audience was thunderstruck. I was in a merchant vessel that was stuck in St. John Canada due to the US was in lock down. We arrived in NYC a week later and then I heard this song and grown men and women were in tears. While tied to Chelsea Pier the rank smell of death really played havoc on all of the Veterans aboard we were hugging and supporting each other to get by. Yes I remember that day for the rest of my life.

I remember watching this performance . I had been in lockdown in school cause of how the prisoners were acting. I’ll never forget that it was my foster parents daughter in law that picked me upped that day. His song made me cry cause I let out all the emotions that I was feeling that day .

You can hear a pin drop while he was singing this song. It was one that was meant to be written.

He told the story, similar to what Vince Gill said in the introduction. That he had to suddenly get up during the middle of the night and write it. He said God Himself wrote it through Alan, that literally all he did was hold the pen.✒💖🎶🎸

I was at school, grade one, but i remember coming home and seeing the towers on the tv. I asked my mom what happened and she ran into the living room, tears in her eyes, turned the tv off and sent me outside saying she'll explain later. I was in highschool when i realized what that random, burned into my brain, memory was.
