While I love the character and the show, I always feel an odd melancholy when watching this show - and it is nothing to do with Alan's sort in life. There is something beige and mildly unpleasant about the world of the show that always bums me out. It's almost like feeling of synesthesia that makes me smell mothballs whenever I watch.
