My little bit of history with Scotsman is I got time off work to see her come through New Mills South Junction on her way back from America. I cleaned her when she was at Dinting Railway Centre, including those famous nameplates, and rode in the cab taking film on No 4 road there. Happy days 😊

Fifty years later and still going strong. It’s interesting to see the scenes at Kings Cross, Peterborough, Paddington and Snow Hill. There are crowds standing right against the platform edges and people happily standing in the middle of the four-foot. These days you so much as try to set a tripod up on a platform to take video of her and you get dirty looks from railway staff.

The story of Alan Pegler is both inspiring and sad. He risked everything for Scotsman - and won for a while, but ultimately he lost and it ruined him financially and trashed his health. There are strong tones of a Shakespeare tragedy about the whole saga.

In 1963 she was 40 years old wow a long time i thought being only 8 or 9. On 1st May 1968 she ran the non stop flying Scotsman London to Edinburgh and they only just a made it without stopping as they thought they may run out of water, again 40 years and it was such a long time. Where has all the time gone??? did someone speed up the clock?, That trip in 1968 is now 53 years ago.

Great film. My father-in-law, Doug Cullen drove the Scotsman from Nottingham Victoria to Southampton and back to Trent Station on 18th May 1963. It was for the Gainsborough Model Railway Society 1X50 Party Excursion. I have kept his timings he prepared before the run.

Reminds me of Gordon’s trip to London where he wanted to see King’s-Cross, and when he reunites with Flying-Scotsman in the RWS, too.

“I had a rebuild, too, and looked hideous. But my owner (A. F. Pegler) said that I was an extra special engine, and so, he made them gimme back my proper shape.” - Flying-Scotsman also had an extra tender as coal and water limits were soon rare on BR when original steam services withdrawn ended. Were the events of this documentary part of what Flying-Scotsman was mentioning about when he reunions with Gordon?

I figured that uploading this film would be relevant since the engine has just returned to the rails after a decade long hiatus.

What is the name of the narrator/commentator? I have the impression by his voice that he also commentated the documentary on the last London tram "the Elephant Never Forgets" or something like that. His is a superb voice. Will be grateful for any info' on this for which my sincere thanks in advance.

Holy smokes, I used to have this on VHS and watched it hundreds of times as a boy. There was another with narration by Johnny Morris and the Scotsman goes to different places like Birmingham Snow Hill, London Marylebone, and Dundee. Do you have that by any chance? It was on the same VHS as this short film.

Yeah, it was part of this DVD set that I got. I'm hesitant to upload it because I'm afraid that I'll get hit for copyright infringement. Also, my computer just died the other day so uploads are currently impossible.
