The Marmonts got what was coming for them. Rudolf deserved so much better; he was such a nice man in AW1. With how exploitative and arrogant the Marmonts were, the entire storyline made me pretty nauseous. The manuscript page about Rudolf's death made me tear up. They tortured that man until he had nothing left, and then called his suicide "a set-back."

@@CrystalWings12 I also felt that the DLC implies that Alan’s/Ed Booker’s inclusion of the Marmonts into the manuscripts took their insecurities about each other and amplified them to the point they become monsters. There’s a page that describes Diana fondly recollecting Jules’ smile before her and her office were taken over by the Darkness. That and a couple of other similar pages suggest to me that their love is still there somewhere.
@CrystalWings1223 күн бұрын
@@RagulViknesh It's really sad because all those were gone the moment they became Taken. Even then, Diana's hatred towards Jules is so strong, she went after her husband first before she set her gaze on Estevez.
@fortnight567719 күн бұрын
The suicide was by Jules' nudging. He believed the art was "inside," Rudolf. On the other hand, they were not monsters. You get hints of their personalities before turning into monsters, feelings every person may have, as well as doubts and insecurities. Alan simply used it to create yet another horror story. This is like saying a naive child got what it's coming for them because they didn't know any better. I mean this is basically what every single "Taken," is going through. Their negative thoughts getting cranked up to extreme, taking only a small mistake, combined with Alan's horror story.

I want to point out that The Bureau didn’t know what they were doing at The Lake House-they were working behind the Bureau’s back. We know this because in Control and in the base game, Estevez mentions that The Lake House hasn't reported their research to the investigations department. Also, at the end of the DLC, you can read an email saying that Darling prohibited The Lake House from doing human experiments, but they went ahead with it anyway, without authorization.

The story of control was ok imo, i think in control not necessarily the story is good but the worldbuilding is exceptional. In Alan Wake 2 i really like the story, but navigating the world was a really, really bad experience, i had to look up guides multiple times since i did not understand what i should do next or where i should go, a problem i never had in Alan Wake 1, any of its DLC or Alan Wake american nightmare. Sometimes i think the character just stating "i shoud do X next" to give the player a hint when you are clearly stuck, would be a big help. The Lake House DLC was i think a better gameplay experience, but i still sometimes had problems. For example i was in -1, there was a Level 3 Access Card hidden on floor -1, my goal was, according to the UI "Get to Sublevel -5" which i needed a Level 3 Acces card, which was hidden in -1, so i expected there a way to aquire the Level 3 Access card in floor -1 without leaving it. Only when i looked up a guide i unserstand that i had to leave floor -1 despite the card i have to aquire to reach the goal the game set for me was on that level.

the symbol that appears on screen when meeting dylan tells me that all 6 symbols on the 6 doors in the oceanview motel in control correlate to a specific game. Black Pyramid is Control, Spiral is Alan Wake 2, and the symbol that appears in the lake house (which looks to me a magnifying glass on top of a broken circle) is Control 2. The last 2 are unconfirmed but the venn diagram looking one was supposed to be for a multiplayer game Remedy was developing with Tencent however it was cancelled in November 2023, and since then Remedy has announced FBC Firebreak which is also a multiplayer game I wouldn't be surprised if the venn diagram now correlates to that game.

This DLC was absolutely worth every rand spent (fan from South Africa😁😁) I appreciated the exploration into the FBC and how they are not a unilateral cohesive unit, especially after lockdown due to the Hiss invasion. It made me think more on why HQ is still on lockdown even after Jesse stopped majority of the Hiss invasion in Control. The fact that they showed Dylan towards the end of the game looking more older but still in containment tells me that things did not go as planned and Jesse is still fighting to this very day or is caught up with another hostile entity that entered the Oldest House. I cannot wait for the sequel of Control.

The third S could stand for Secrets, It could be a hint at the title of Control 2. Control: Secrets, sounds like a pretty meta name, and fitting because that's what the Bureau does, and presumably we'd be exploring more secrets about the Bureau in the next game. But since its actually a C, it could just be a wink to the name Control, and the purpose of the Bureau . So it would be: Safety, Security and Control. Either way, cool.

But in Alan Wake 2, I've noticed that certain character details, like those of Saga, the Old Gods, Zane, and Mr. Door, are rarely mentioned. This could mean that powers beyond Alan’s reach aren't included because he couldn't draw inspiration from what he couldn’t "see," unlike Saga or the Old Gods.

I find it hard to believe that the Hiss invasion has been going on for four years. For one, the people inside the Oldest House would have died after just one year in there after running out of resources like food and ammo. I think the presence of the Bright Falls AWE plus a few other documents found there that should I have happened yet, like the one mentioning how the watch station was damaged by “raccoons” points to another possibility. Time inside the Oldest House is out of sync with the outside, possibly a side effect of the lockdown. While to the outside four years have passed, inside it’s been weeks, months at most.
@GamingHarryYT23 күн бұрын
I never said it was still going on. The last we saw in Control, the remaining agents were looking to clear what was left of the Hiss. I don’t know why the Oldest House is still dark, but I guess we will have to wait until Control 2 in order to find out.
@Arthus85023 күн бұрын

So, my theory is that Jules is right, actually. Censorship doesn't make sense as the 3rd S, but what if it was never about censoring with a C, but sensoring with an S. Little phrases have power in the Remedyverse, and a little workplace neumonic was actually pretty frowned upon back in the FBC if we remember the document collectibles of Control. Theres a lot given to these games through intuition, being able to sense the danger is here and now so it doesn't immediately eat you. The Lakehouse failed at this, only Jules seemed to piece it together that the dark place was bot to be taken lightly, but even then that didn't stop him from pushing Rudolph over the edge. Jesse is alive because she trusted both her own intuition and that of Polaris, trusting that Polaris will cover her from the hiss. Dylan being there, seemingly escaping his coma and the lockdown of the Oldest House, quickly comes to an end when he says theres something happening outside, and how he asks Kieran to tell Jesse he tried. Ultimately, if we read censorship more as sensory, then ut makes a lot more sense cosidering the themes, and might point to mechanics put into Control 2.
@rocketmancmbn21 күн бұрын
The circle is also featured in the Control 2 ”vision”. This dlc made me think of the Zane/Darling meeting in New Game + which implied a collaboration between art and science as a way out of the dark place.
@RobStevens647 күн бұрын
What I love about the Alan Wake / Remedyverse is that it's never fully clear if life is imitating art or vice versa. The Lake House DLC is a perfect example of it. The rift between the Marmonts seems to predate any of the writings, but is it possible they were written even earlier and they only found them after, or did the writer get wind of their issues and incorporate them into the story? Alan Wake is a bit timey-wimey, so it could even be a bit of both ... an ongoing chicken vs. egg scenario. Also, remember that there is a multi-player Remedyverse game (FBC: Firebreak) coming out before Control 2. More likely the circles are referring to that game ... Spirals for Alan Wake, Inverted Pyramids for Control, Circles for Project CONDOR ... the third C.
@X-SPONGED12 күн бұрын
Wake's pages and the Marmonts' paranoia makes me wonder. Is it because of Wake's writings that the Marmonts turned out that way (akin to fate) or was it specifically because of themselves that Wake wrote those pages. Questioning the chicken or the egg so to speak, was it Wake that made them into monsters or did the monsters make Wake write those pages in the first place?
@fortnight567719 күн бұрын
People tend to forget every single thing happening in this story, is written by Alan. Even the characters doubting the story, written by him. Maybe even Saga, her powers, Old Gods of Asgard... The events of this story works as an overlap itself maybe... Alan made Jules be afraid of the pages, Alan made Jules go after Rudolf, Alan made Diana go with her own research... It's all Alan... Or Scratch. Are the stakes real? Is the switch simply going to turn everything back to normal? Marmonts coming back one day maybe?

I just figured out what happened with the Lake House: Alan wrote a story, “The Lake House”; that hadn’t happened yet… The FBC decided to run an experiment by giving the doctors the first few pages, and seeing if the rest would unfold as written… The scientists at the Lake House figured out what was happening, which is why they requested additional pages, and the 2nd research group was there to report on everything that happened back to “the oldest house”; to see if it matched up with the rest of the pages… It’s a loop in of it’s self: as the FBC completed the actions to start Alan’s written reality, and thus took it from page to reality… I think this is suppose to show how the power at cauldron lake works, in real-time… I also think the previous DLC “Night Springs”, was a kind of test by Zane/Alan/Lake to see who has more power or ability in the creation of his written story: Is it the reader/fan(rose), the story itself(Jesse), or the editor(Tim)… To create a really good complete story: you need all three, and they all need to work together; in order to create a masterpiece… or in our world: whatever Sam Lake writes in his garage on Tuesday.

This DLC was much better than the first one, which felt like a fan service filler episodes. The horror elements were back, the threshold had memorable set pieces and the difficulty felt appropriate. That said, I'm not too deep in Control lore and I just can't find enough time or interest to finish it, so the tease for the future title didn't excite me that much. This DLC did made me feel like it left me hanging when it comes to Alan's story and I had the expectations it would push the narrative similar to what American Nightmare did. I guess we'll have to wait for AW3 to get some conclusion to Wake's story, but it's been what 10 or so years between AW1 and 2, so yea... This is one of the reasons why I do not enjoy these "expanded" universes, because they require me to be up to date with titles that are outside of the ones I'm invested in.

The last area before the boss contained only bullets, no health, no black stone I had to kill the boss with 1 health left, which made it an intense boss fight, but still (just a minor nitpick tbh)

Doubt it. This DLC was a slight bridge between Alan Wake and Control. It’s obvious that Remedy are trying to build a bigger universe here.

@@GamingHarryYT You're probably right?. Or the devs just had to shoe-horn another generic female character in, for "reasons?" My money is on the ladder option.

@@zachs.murray6003 if they called it Bright Falls would you have wanted to play as Bright Falls? That's what the game is about, the main character is the space not the people

honesty i felt like the story of aw2 was a step down from aw1 and control just feels like a lot of outside interference to me

Well, at least Alan Wake was still in the centre of the story even though only half of the game we played as him. But, from the entire story, the real main character was and still is Saga Anderson (and the Andersons) because they have the power to counter the scratch that tried to use Alan. So, there is nothing wrong if the title should be about Saga the real protagonist, like Saga's Wake (because her power woke up the first time in this game) or Anderson's Moonshine, or something like that.

In a game named alan wake. Only 35% of it you can play as him
@GamingHarryYT23 күн бұрын
That’s not true at all. According to a Google Search, you play as Alan for about 55% of the game. So just over half. His sections in the Dark Place were very long.

Alan is disposed in most of the story, but by the end he is in full control. Whenever we get an AW3, we will likely only play as him.

The legend of Zelda, you rarely ever get to play as Zelda. Just because it has his name doesn’t mean you have to play as him. The story is still very much about him. Or rather, the events started with him in Bright Falls. Though much of the game is also about the Anderton’s, it’s still centered on his stories, his big bad, his world etc.
