Watched this as a 17 year old teenager in 1971 . Remember it well . I believe Whickers World was shown on Monday evenings at nine . T.V was so much better in those days .

It's quite something to see a documentary about the infamous penal colony with people who still remembered when the prison was active. Amazing that Alan even found a former inmate who spoke English.

Whicker really invented abd defined the travel show genre... Hell, when Michael Palin began his 'Around The World in 80 Days...' adventure, lunch with Whicker was an essential pre-amble before departure... a British legend...🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍

Whicker really was quite first class. Hugely erudite and urbane…..always correctly turned out too; an Englishman abroad. Such a change from the vulgar Phillip Schofield sorts today….

Ah, Blackpool... a sad decline... I've had better nights on the roof of Barlinnie jail in freezing February...🤣👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿... But its not the worst, but then, I've stayed in some Brittannia hotels...🤣🤣👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I visited Devil's Island in 1977 on a family vacation... not the greatest place on earth to go for a swim...yet me being only 7 at the time did so...I remember mum ringing a bell to show me how dangerous swimming in the water actually was...so my advice would be...listen to your mother ...I remember it like it was yesterday...
