People in Halifax who knew Percy Shaw said that some the eccentricities shown in the Whicker programme (like him sitting in bare room in front of multiple television sets) were not actually how he lived, and were Percy's idea of playing a joke on the television types. However, other eccentricities (like the large quantities of food and drink he bought wholesale) were entirely real.

“Like some solid Yorkshire Buddha”. An apt description for a unique individual. Behind his affable smile and easy going charm was clearly a talented mind and inventor. I love how he down plays his fortune and achievements. They don’t make them like this gentlemen anymore. This is a beautiful documentary that capture’s a simpler, more honest time we’re community and people looked after one another. 🙏❤️.x

It was said Percy created the cats eyes on seeing a cats eyes light up in the headlight of his car….if the cat had been walking away he would have invented the desk pencil sharpener 🐈👀😊👍

In my opinion he DIDNT actually invent them. The idea was around 100’s of years ago, in Pompeii the romans laid small white pieces of oynex between the cobble stones so when the moonlight shone on them it showed the chariot riders where to go. The principle of cats eye were around long before he was born. But fair play to the man.

its the self cleaning aspect that he patented.

Hahaha!! Talk about trying to take away credit from a man and his achievements. This gentleman had the foresight and talent to patent his ideas and do why he did.x
