Hi Alan I watched this video yesterday and changed my fuel filter on my 2012 Mondeo Really glad I did as I would have probably made a backside of it if I didn't! Took your advice and carefully levered up the fuel filter cover. Let the filter drain, put the new one in carefully bolting it down and then started the car! First turn of the key sprung into life! So thanks Alan great advice! If your ever up in Edinburgh il buy you a pint! Cheers Fella

After installation of the new filter put out the screw and fill diesel until the filter housing is completely full. Than the moter starts fine. greetings from Austria

Did as instructed, but went from original Ford filter into an aftermarket cartridge. Learned the hard way that the difference is that the Ford unit has a pipe inside, and it sucks fuel closer to the bottom of the housing, and the el cheapo sucks air above the fuel level initially. That led to four long cranks before the engine finally fired up. It also led to running problems the following day (read: run only five seconds before dying). Solution was to unscrew the plug from the plastic lid and connect a clear hose onto the hole, and suck the air out of the filter housing. Then just start the motor and give it a lot of pedal to keep revs up till it agreed to stay alive. And finally, finish the whole thing with a little bit of sporty driving to get the fuel running and shake the bubbles out.

Alan, I learned a little trick getting fuel up to the filter housing. Look at the housing cover you'll see a little slot for a cross head screw driver. Go on give it a wee turn " leftie loosie" and you know those fellas who suck out the oil through dip stick pipe. Go on get your sucker up to the filter housing... Nice Video ! But how can metal shavings in the fuel filter housing be an indicator for a bad high pressure Pumpe? After the fuel leaves the HP pump and goes trough the injectors, it doesn’t return through the fuel filter. It goes trough that green hose straight in to the tank ? If those shavings really are from the HP pump, they would have to be sucked out of the tank, back in to the filter right ? Cheers 🍻
@alan4x3 жыл бұрын
the fuel pressure in the pump and fuel rail are managed by the pump metering valve and engine ecu....there is a fuel return pipe that comes off that pump and dumps fuel straight back to the tank...fuel in the tank is then drawn back through the filter and into the pump again so if the pump goes faulty and puts metal specs in to the injectors it also puts the metal throughout the entire fuel system

Is there a video for the mondeos with fuel filter at the rear near tank. These can be somewhat challenging. Have you done one. The 2L diesel? I have the 2L Diesel Focus which is basically the same engine and I followed the video and it worked for me. Just don't disconnect the fuel lines, do exactly as the video says. You might have an extra metal bracket like mine that you need to remove first. 2 bolts on the front, one nut on the left side. Then the rest is the same as the video.

Great video ! Is it possible to drain water from that type of fuel filter ? At dealer services where the fuel filter is not replaced, ETIS tells the Ford technicians to 'Drain water, if not renewed - Diesel models (with drain facility)'. Is it done via plastic screw on the top of the housing and if so, where does the water drain out ?

Am I right that there is another type of fuel filter housing for later (or earlier) models - where the top of the housing should be unscrewed? I assume for such matters no other options rather than to unplug fuel pipes from the filter housing, right?
@alan4x6 жыл бұрын
hi, yes some of the earlier models have a filter underneath the car by the back axle. you unscrew the lid with something like a 32mm socket size... because the lid is upside down on the car the pipes are at the bottom of the housing so no need to disconnect any pipes but the fuel system will have to be bled with an air brake bleeder or suction pump of some description
@andypeck19726 жыл бұрын
As Alan says. The filter is upside down, so filling it with diesel is out of the question. The system is vacuum fed, so using the schraeder valve to the right of the cylinder head you have to bleed about a litre volume of air out from the rear of the car. Even then, it's a pig to start. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Not a job for the faint hearted.
@marrinersgarage34636 жыл бұрын
Any chance you have further info on bleeding air from the system? I"ve got the filter changed and car starts but can see there is air in the system which causes it to run slightly off and after sitting overnight can be hard to start. I've not had any luck locating a workshop manual for the 2013/14 models which seem to use this different filter (I have a 2010 model as well which has the filter at the rear).
@alan4x6 жыл бұрын
if your car is running any air in the system should self bleed out, if not you most probably have an air leak into one of the fuel pipes...main places to check are the fuel feed pipe from the tank to the high pressure fuel pump..where the pipe connected onto the pump the "o" ring seal could be faulty or if you have a tyre valve in your fuel pipe under the bonnet..that valve could be faulty letting air into the system
@marrinersgarage34636 жыл бұрын
