The Hymer MLT580 is one of my favourite 4x4 motorhomes. In this version, the Hymer MLT580 comes on a 4x4 drive, although it is also available with rear wheel drive only.

* The specified mass in running order is a default value defined in the type-approval procedure. Due to manufacturing tolerances, the actual weighed mass in running order may deviate from the value stated above. Deviations of up to ± 5 % of the mass in running order are legally permissible and possible. The permissible range in kilograms is given in brackets after the mass in running order. The manufacturer-specified mass for optional equipment is a calculated value for each type and layout that HYMER uses to determine the maximum weight available for factory-fitted optional equipment. The limitation of optional equipment is intended to ensure that the minimum pay-mass, i.e. the legally prescribed free mass for baggage and retrofitted accessories, is actually available for the vehicle load capacity of the vehicles delivered by HYMER. The real weight of your vehicle ex works can only be determined when it is weighed at the end of the line. If, in exceptional cases, the weighing shows that the actual load capacity falls below theminimum pay-mass despite limiting the optional equipment due to a permissible weight deviation, we will check together with your trade partner and you whether we should, for example, increase the load capacity of the vehicle, reduce the number of seats or remove optional equipment before delivering the vehicle. The technically permissible maximum laden mass of the vehicle and the technically permissible maximum mass on the axle must not be exceeded.

I said to the dealer today, that I'd only buy a van if Alan Heath said it was a good vehicle. He said he knew your channel. I was looking at the Malibu T430 LE after you mentioning that but now I'm thinking of this one instead. If I can get one next year...

@@VanlifewithAlan I had a look around the MLT today at Erwin Hymer Centre but too expensive - £141,000+ for a 2020 model. Looked in great shape with a load of extras but too much for a 3 year old vehicle. Very nice layout and quality inside though…. Also looked at the 2024 model in bamboo - didn’t like that inside at all! All the surfaces looked like unfinished MDF painted black and grey.

What a wonderful car, conservative interior that is very beautiful and harmonious. Large bathroom and large lounge, I understand that you like this, I do too. Garage and load weight were also incredibly good, in addition built on Mercedes, perfect.

Fantastic vehicle - price aside, the main "problem" of the Mlt 4x4 is the weight. It's almost impossible from what I gather to drive it with a normal car license.

The one in the video is plated at 4100kg. I could drive it on my licence (older U.K. licence) but yes many people couldn’t.

Depends on where you intend to drive I guess. Here in Australia there is shitloads of interesting places at the end of dirt roads and I wouldn't be risking that in a 2WD. If you're in Europe I'm imagining there's not as much need for it?

@@gooble69 I guess if you have a 4x4 you’d find somewhere to try it out but ‘wild camping’ isn’t allowed in all European countries and it is a motorhome with a television, glasses,crockery,fridge full of food,etc, inside which maybe wouldn’t cope well with a spontaneous hill climb. Perhaps I could take up skiing and drive through the Alps.

I just can't understand why basically all modern motorhomes use this cramped interior layout with the tiny table, a rear bench, and reversed front seats. You are going to be sitting a lot in your motorhome. You need a nice place for that.

I agree with you: wearing shoes in the house is a no-no for me too. And on beds? Wtf? I do think that you must clearly love Hymer, because you did not complain about the presence of some of your pet hates in this van: useless open shelves around the bed, and small drain plugs in the shower. And the payload is obviously high only because this is a 4100kg van. Which Hymer do you own?
