Did you forget about me, Mr. Duplicity? Well I am here to remind you about that Jagged Little Pill in 1995 that first introduced us all to Alanis Morissette. An unforgettable voice, incredible song hooks and a powerful presence for women in rock in the 90s, Alanis was everywhere all at once and it was almost too much for this 20-year-old Canadian songwriter to bear. Join me as we look back on this album loaded with successful singles with one hand in our pocket and the other one hitting play on this podcast.

Greetings from Spain, an album that marked a decade and that marked me personally, an album that, as you say, has great song after great song... thank you for bringing to my memory many groups and songs that I had completely forgotten.

Thank you for trying and thank you for caring and thank you for this video (I'm at home a lot so I watch videos like this while doing my thing). Alanis Morissette has helped me to know it's okay to be raw and vulnerable because you can't grow without it. Thank you for caring!

NICE! I just got a Weezer album with a vinyl that is marbled blue and white marble. 🔥 And dude, I just love your videos, and appreciate how huge of a fan of great music you are. (I'm a very big Smashing Pumpkins fan, like you) And I just wanted to say, out of the subscribers I am subbed to, you are the coolest. 🙌🙌🎶🎶

I remember when this came out, American Gothic was airing on TV at the time. Why it was cancelled after one season I do not know!

Thanks for the great material. I’m now just going through your pod eps while I pack for a house move. I’m on The Bends, and I was surprised at your assessment of the band’s ‘attitude’ of ‘pretension’. ‘They’re intimidating, I guess it’s that oddball-unwilling to play by conventional rules’ I guess I was just wondering, firstly, don’t we love Radiohead for that point of difference? I mean I love me some dumb unintellectual rock, and there’s plenty of it, but I won’t go to Radiohead for that. They’re different and that’s positive right? Second, rock music is the people’s music, it is supposed to question and challenge conventions, social, cultural, ideological, stylistic; this is what made the second half of the Beatles career so thrilling. The first half they play by the rules, they fit in but by Rubber Soul, they’re starting to push against expectations. I listened to your best of 23’ list and I won’t yuck anyone’s yum, but a number of those records were conventional. I love Spoon who can be conventional and unconventional but Radiohead pushed rock music forward at a time when it was steeped in convention (Britpop and later grunge). This is the most important thing about Radiohead I think. It’s also the most important thing for rock music period. It has to challenge norms and conventions otherwise it becomes commodified and a commodity. I guess it just surprised me that for them being one of your top 5 bands you would have this criticism/bugbear with them. Being intellectual shouldn’t be associated with classism or class, public libraries are supposed to make sure of this and drinking wine is also a tradition of both upper class and lower class in Mediterranean countries. To your argument though, Radiohead are from an upper class background from Oxford. I think Thom’s father was a medical specialist. But they’ve always made music for the people aka the people’s music if you read Ian McDonald’s book The People’s Music. Anyway, I really like your channel and were a year apart in age and it’s uncanny the references and similar experiences we’ve had over the journey: I was big into Smashing Pumpkins and Radiohead. I agree about Alanis Morisette. I haven’t finished your Bends ep yet so I’m not sure if you mentioned that with their Bends record they supported Alanis on the JLP tour.
