It is called "irony of fate" people and the song pretty much decribes situational irony. Irony is not only a rhetorical device but especially in colloquial speech people call it irony when life is playing games with you...

BUT the unexpected: Rain. She went to any lenghts to make that day perfect but life can just ruin all her efforts at its whim. At that time, it was so amazing to see a Canadian Artist reach that level of International fame! I also loved that she was so beautiful (gorgeous face, long hair while often wearing a torque, & tall, lean body) without having to sexualize everything the way that other females did (E.g. Britney Spears, Christina, Etc), and it was even more incredible when they created a Broadway Musical around her music, called, “Jagged Little Pill.”
