Alanis is so great. Anything from her Jagged Little Pill album is part of her best work

She's probably one of the greatest voices of the 90s and early 2000s. Also she recently released a song called "Reasons I drink" for her new album coming out in may, and it's absolutely stunning. One of the few artists that don't dissappear once they hit 30

Yeah, this song helped me through some rough spots of severe depression ... I always kept thinking ''that I would be good''... while I was singing the song in my head to myself. When Alanis hits those high notes... it feels like my soul is screaming for all the doubts about myself to get the f**ck outta my brain ! Good therapy ;) , took a while, but today , I know I'm good ! I feel good, my life is good ... I'm in a good place. Hope this can inspire someone. Peace.

India...yes,yes,yes..Alanis Morissette was my hero during my 20’s. Went through some tough heart breaks. Her music was my anthem for I hate men phase I went through. Her voice is so unique and her lyrics makes you think about the power of being a women means. She makes you feel like you can do anything if you put your mind to. It. You are not a victim. “You ought to know” is powerful and so many women were uplifted and learned not to take crap from any man. Keep reacting to her music...Judy D.

This song and it’s message has been such a saving grace for me over the years. Its like a prayer put into song. It’s easy to say I’ll b ok when things are going great and easy, but for me this song is about being at that lowest place and even still in that space finding resolve and saying/declaring that despite what is going on or my circumstances I know I am going to be ok-that I’ll be good no matter. It’s about having quiet fortitude and resilience, and affirming that you can make it through whatever you’re facing. It’s about having the strength to face a reality and working through it one step at a time. For me that source of strength and fortitude is my faith and trust in God. Anyways, needed to type all that out. And yeh, I’ve always been a huge fan of alanis morisette, her song writing, and her artistry. This song is a huge reason why.

Jagged Little Pill was one of the biggest albums of all time and the label pressured her to tour endlessly. She took a break (went to India) and considered retiring because of how high expectations to repeat her success was and this song is about that.

She could use the 20 lbs she already gained, she ain't never had enough thumbs down to get her down, she ain't bankrupt and should never be as long as she's thrifty, and none of those other things ain't gonna happen to her unless she gets near or ingests toxic chemicals. She's the muse for whiney girls who are afraid of stepping on a sticker or splitting a nail, and she made a gadjillion bucks singing about scary shit that may, may not, or cannot happen. Imagine people that like Alanis Morissette a whole lot, sit around their house and afraid to go outside.

It can be a true tragedy that cynicism has caused so many to lose contact with their spirit. If you have been fortunate enough to have gone through life relatively unscaved, well count yourself fortunate I guess. However if you find yourself in the space she’s singing about one day then I hope you’ll find a source of strength and fortitude to carry you through-which is the heart of the song’s message and why it remains relevant to the human experience, as all good art does. Be well.

Thanks Luis and toddo, both valid points as I'll relisten to the cut a few more times, peakin' in the mirror and working on some empathetic exercises. To tell the truth, I know little of Morrisette's background or the audience she resonates with, kinna missed the 90s pop scene. Great energy, angst, and hiptitude. She did make a few styley videos (still tho, kinna whiney-yodely).
