Oddly enough, I think one of the first application of the electrochromic panoramic roof for Toyota/Lexus ( or even other manufacturers for that matter) was the premium-ish, but not full-on luxury car/brand outgoing Toyota Venza

I’ve watched 100’s of reviews on this vehicle and right out of the gate your review hits on the main points I bought this vehicle. “Body on Frame” AND I traded an xdrive 2022 X5 for it. So yea huge difference in driving experience. It’s like going from a fighter jet to a tank on the ground. I’ll say this. I drive in Dallas and already I feel safer on the road. Now when a huge truck comes up behind me we are the same size. And I won’t be crushed like an accordion if I get hit. The only reason I left Sport cars for suvs like the X5 was because I thought SUVs were stronger than sports cars. Turns out I was wrong and had a false sense of security in them. The AC is awful though. It constantly jumps to auto and turns on everything. Heated seats heated steering and it even turns on the fans in seats with heating. I’ve went through all settings. That part is really really really bad. I wish I could have rented one first

I was tempted by the GX, it is pretty cool! But the annoyances you mentioned, the fact that there's not all that much space in these for their outward size, plus the fact you have to put premium fuel in it despite having the same engine as the Tundra, where regular fuel is apparently fine (despite the fact that the Tundra has more power!) makes me want to get a 2025 Yukon instead.

You really should have turned off the eye detector. Easy to do. Also should have did the driving portion in different modes. Really does make a difference from comfort to sport plus with acceleration and handling. I have the OT+ since July. On 34’s this thing is great for mid lvl off-roading and road trips. Turns a lot of heads as well. Paid 78 and no buyers remorse. Very happy with the truck

It’s important to evaluate the car in the form a lot of people will use (with the eye detector). Also important not to mess with too many settings, otherwise this car could show up at an event with all my custom settings and be a headache. Enjoy your car!

Love my GX550 OT+ - but with some caveats…..at this price point the seats should be real leather; my trim should have the video rear view mirror; more storage compartments in the front; the driver seat is too flat and unsupportive. So far MPG has been lower than the EPA. Just took a long trip with four total people and rear cargo area filled. After 400 miles mpg was 18. Hopefully the seats and mirrors can be updated in the 2025 model year.

I used to look in my rearview mirror and see all these new trucks with all these new mean aggressive looking headlights and grill and also at the State of Texas. I honestly loved them. But now that at I’m in this vehicle and were the same height, I see them and they all start to look a bit ridiculous and more like a fad. I don’t believe those trucks will age well. The looks of this are spot on. The look of this machine will age well. It’s not pretending to be anything other than what it is.

Here in Canada, dealer mark ups over msrp are illegal. That hasn't stopped some unscrupulous dealers, who drive the new ones around for 800-1500km, then list them as 'used' - where msrp no longer applies - for 25% or more over sticker.

I really like the style, tech and capabilities. I'm just not sure about jumping to turbos and out of the GX460 V8 we have in the drive way right now. They have made a fantastic upgrade to the model to even get me to consider a turbo equipped truck.

Great review! I got to see one of these up close in person at the New York Auto Show earlier this year and I do like the look, even though I’m not really a fan of SUVs. They made a real capable off roader here, too bad it will mostly be a mall crawler 😂 Good pointing out the lift gate glass, EVERY hatchback car should have this! My BMW wagon has it and I absolutely love the feature! 🤩
