I'm not a huge SUV fan, but this generation of Land Cruiser looks good. I'm glad they brought it back with the international "Prado" chassis that they have had only as a Lexus in the past...Streamlines the lineup and creates better differentiation between Toyota and Lexus large SUVs. Fun fact: Here in the Netherlands, due to Taxes, this generation of Land Cruiser starts at €180,995 Euros...yep you're reading that correctly, almost 200k for a Toyota.

The First Edition model has much better underbody protection plus rock rails. Those parts are available through the dealer. While some people need the side steps, the underbody protection should have been standard.

To me the Land Cruiser is less about off-roading and more about a car that lasts 30 years on the road. The less fancy interior is more of a feature because stuff isn't going to break easily and it's probably going to age well.

No it's not "back". The light-duty Land Cruiser platform has never gone anywhere. Toyota makes 3 tiers of Land Cruiser, the light-duty Land Cruiser Prado (250), the medium duty 300 Series, and the heavy-duty 70 Series. North America has a new generation of the light-duty LC that has always been there since the 80s-90s as the 4Runner and Lexus. US lost the medium-duty and it has not returned, but remains in the form of the Lexus LX600

I've seen one in the flesh a few times that a neighbor has and it looks very nice! Lookswise they got it down, and it makes the previous version look bland....but like others mention their recent issues with some engine models (I still can't believe I just typed that about Toyota) and all of the stuff in these cars make me wonder how it's going to be longevity wise, which is something Land Cruisers are famous for. Enjoyed the review, looking forward for the upcoming ones...("minivaaaaaaan" can be heard as a wisper in the background)

This is an excellent video and thank you for making this. I will be in the market spring 2025 and this car is on my list. What would be in your professional opinion right now the best SUV w off road capability? I’m curious. Toyota has tried here. I think we all get the vision they tried to put into this car. Cant decide if they came up short or not. Price tag is what it is. Hearing dealers not budging on price (yet) which is weird but probably will change. Long term reliability on new engine TBT. Hate to even say this, right now, if one looking for a value based off roader that is just really good, hard pressed not to say Subaru Outback Wilderness. For the price it’s tough to beat. I realize Subi coming out with a re design very soon as well so that remains to be seen where that car lands.

Is the Land Cruiser worth $70k compared to rival brands or would a lower trim Lexus GX be a better value for the money?
@AlanisKing15 күн бұрын
I’d have to get in the lower trim GX to know, but I think at that point, it’s more about preference. The GX will have some fancier features, but the Land Cruiser has the name

It's a series of trade offs. Want more power? GX. Want gas mileage? LC. Fancier interior, GX. More functional interior, LC. I chose the LC.
@johnnixon250415 күн бұрын
I was really hoping for a bare bones version that was about $45-$50k. I would love to see a bigger gap between the GX and the LC. Granted, this opinion doesn't matter because they will sell every single one they bring over.
@AlanisKing15 күн бұрын
Totally agree on all of your points here
@jdrein951114 күн бұрын
It's difficult to compare prices accurately due to the way options are grouped. The Land Cruiser reviewed here has every available option for 2025. If you were to try to replicate all those features on a GX, you would pay substantially more. What trips people up, is they see the GX starting at 65k but don't account for the fact that the base GX is nowhere near as well equipped as this Land Cruiser is.
@johnnixon250414 күн бұрын
@ I just shopped the GX550 and the local dealer has 72-75k GXs for sale including one over trail “base” model. I guess I just miss the days that the Land Cruiser upper end was less than the GX base price. I have used Toyota and Lexus for years and the after sales experience at the Lexus dealers is well worth the extra money to most Lexus customers. Also, a “less expensive” Land Cruiser would be fantastic for enthusiasts that are going to outfit their truck the way they want with accessories and go beat it up off-road. Obviously none of this matters cause they will sell like fast and lead to huge margins for Toyota. It would have been fun to see a new Land Cruiser that got me out of the Lexus dealer using the allure of cloth interior and a price under 50k 🤣

Toyota is charging way too much for their vehicles now. I wonder how much the sticker price will actually be on these. Especially when Tundras are going for $80k, Highlanders for $60k, Camry's for $50k, and Corollas for $30-40K.
@AlanisKing14 күн бұрын
It's soooo hard to adapt to new prices. I feel like I'm in a constant state of "That costs how much?"
@jdrein951114 күн бұрын
Sadly, I think high prices are just the reality now. If you look at the competition, you'll find they're pricey too. Check out a loaded Wrangler Rubicon or Bronco, and you'll find that there isn't much of a price Delta. In some cases, the Wrangler is even more.
@davidheaton620613 күн бұрын
It’s not “back”. It’s not the same thing. It’s like calling the grand Highlander and the Highlander the same thing. This is a Prado the correct narrative - do you like this version a.k.a. the smaller Land Cruiser better. We did not get the 300 series - that would be the Land Cruiser is back.
