We had a balcony and I’m glad we did. I walked out on ours and the glacier was right there. It was my wow moment.

We booked balconies for May 2024 to celebrate a friend's birthday. Thanks for this video!

We self booked a whale watching excursion at Icy Strait Point/ Hoonah and it was the highlight of our trip. Only 15 people on a small boat, and no issues whatsoever, saw 18 individual humpbacks. Also took a pre cruise tour in Anchorage to Portage Glacier, which was fantastic. In June this year we've reserved an electric car at Skagway so we can drive to the Yukon. We'll likely do a couple of excursions through the ship, but doing our homework on KZbin has definitely paid off! Your Mendenhall tip is a valid one, we missed it last summer because we didn't book through the ship. Next June we have booked a car rental for Juneau so we can also visit the Shrine of St Therese along with Mendenhall. Supporting the local businesses is vital for the Alaskan economy. ❤

We're turning our Alaska cruise this coming May/June into a land +sea vacation. We're taking the Empire Builder from Chicago to Seattle, staying in Seattle for 3 nights, then taking the Cascades to Vancouver the day before the cruise and staying in Vancouver for 1 night before boarding Celebrity Solstice.

We have been to Alaska 4 times. Never on a ship. Our son lived there for several years so we never had to rent a car or place to stay. Last Christmas 2022), we flew to Anchorage from Florida, our son, his wife and 9 year old flew from Hawaii and his oldest son (was serving in the AF), drove from Fairbanks area. We rented a condo and a Volvo through Turo. What a great find these two items were! We actually stayed in Eagle River. We are now planning a family (@ 25-35 people) cruise to Alaska this fall, as my 85 year old mom wants to complete her bucket list!! Safe travels!

We did Alaska cruise in 2019 some of our first KZbin vlogs. One of our best family memories. It was amazing.

The ship will tell you not to carry food with you in Alaska. Be bear aware and know about your surroundings especially on hiking trails. Taxis and the Blue Bus can take you all the way to the Mendenhall visitor center.

I took the city bus to the glacier and walked 1 mile to and from the bus stop. For me I save alot of money and I stopped at the local mall to buy local stuff. Thank you for your video.

Re Vancouver, you have to see Butchart Gardens!! You need to take a tour bus (or I suppose drive) to get there, but it's very much worth getting to Vancouver a day or two before (or after) your cruise. It is truly amazing. I don't take many photos, but I took 75-100 there!

PS Maybe obvious, but you want to go during warm weather (such as it is in Vancouver...)

Butchart Gardens is near Victoria on Vancouver ISLAND, not in the city of Vancouver which is on the mainland. If you dock in Victoria then yes you take the tour bus, but from the city of Vancouver you would have to take a ferry or a plane to Victoria and then take the tour bus.

I had a balcony cabin in Alaska, and I literally never went on it. I am able to walk up to the deck, so it was not necessary for me.
