Oh my, this is so different from hunting in Louisiana. The swamps of Central Louisiana is where I spent time hunting with my Daddy many years ago. But the similarities of hunting for the table are the same. You did a wonderful job of describing the whole experience from beginning to end. I'm in my seventies now and no longer hunt, but still love to watch the animals in their natural habitats. As always, Luna is so very cute. Thank you for sharing.

We are a hunting family as well. I have had several kills myself. It is so satisfying to provide food for your family. It is a ton of work but it doesn’t get more natural, organic and pure than to hunt your own protein. Honestly I can’t imagine buying meat in the stores at these prices. I don’t know how people do it. Your video was spot on with the information. Thank you!!

This is great stuff. I just found your channel and subbed. 12 years in Alaska now. I have a boat, a pilot's license and my permanent, free, senior resident hunting, fishing and trapping license. At 75, a moose hunt is a bit ambitious for me though...however, we have friends and a few of pounds of moose in the freezer. Lots of salmon and plenty of Sitka Blacktail venison.

I live in Northern Ontario Canada and we have to do hunters education which is similar to yours. Then you have to do the gun course as well. When I took it the youngest in the class was a 12 year old. He had to do exactly the same thing we did. Without it you will never be able to buy ammunition or a gun. Licenses are also on a lottery system. In Ontario we have an outdoors card that you need before buying a license. It helps the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry pay the bills.

Wow!! Lots of work but I do get tradition and providing for family! Though I live in Ohio, but I was brought up in upstate NY and lived there until I was 23 (54 now). Deer hunting is HUGE in central/upstate NY. Mostly white tail. Permits, hunter safety courses and so on apply there also. You can though hunt for someone else as long as you have a tag. As long as the kill is legally tagged you are good. Often wives will get tags and that allows for 2 deer a season. 4 if you get a tag that allows for a doe and buck on each. They have 3 seasons but all in the fall/early winter. Bow season, doe season and regular where you can get either or with a rifle. There are MANY families that rely on that meat to fill the freezer for the winter or up to a year. As I am sure you know, they are a much smaller animal so takes all family in to fill a freezer. I absolutely LOVE venison and miss it! My favorite is venison tenderloin. Summer sausage is pretty good also! It is processed pretty much the same as moose into jerky, steaks, loins, ground and sausage. People get pretty creative with it and nothing is waisted if possible. A lot of people don't understand how so many can be had by one family. The deer population there is seriously out of control and has been for a long time. People die when they hit them with a car, they are destructive to vegetation and gardens. They are flat out hungry and not enough to eat and why they become invasive to homes. There are SO many!! There is also turkey season and how many get their poultry if they don't have chickens. It is a bit different from what you get for Thanksgiving but still good if cooked right. They tend to be smaller sand not as moist also. A bit chewy. I have had squirrel and rabbit too. They are normal done in stews. Again...the population is out of control! I had beaver once also and once is the key word. Don't recommend it! LOL! I didn't hunt but many family members did and I had a many male friends that did along with my foster brother and how I got to try so much and enjoy yearly. I also took the hunter safety course so my tag could be used and we got the loin and a few steaks from whoever used it. Thanks for another great and informative video!

Excellent video and info for everyone. I know when I started researching the regs up there, I was shocked at how huge the reg books were, lol. I was going to be lucky having a guide and fish charter friend living there to teach me the ropes when we move, but since he left Alaska, I will be starting from scratch. Going to have to make some connections, especially for the more remote hunting opportunities since we will have to keep our house shopping options to the Kenai and lower Matsu. I will have my pilot certs by then, but using an ATV, boat, and whatnot will be new to me. Have been involved in hunting and eating whitetail deer since I was really little, and hunting myself since I was 12. Unfortunately I lost access to the farm I have been running around on for 29 years and hunting on for 21, and public access ground around here is terrible. Next chance I get to hunt will probably be when we move to AK in a few years.

Hi Lauren,I live in Ontario Canada,I’m not a hunter, but I fish.Very interesting video. We went to Jamaica a couple of years ago ,I tried their goat stew and it was unbelievably good, try the recipe Moose is an amazingly tasty meat,to me deer is too gamey.I’m sure that all the clothing and equipment is very expensive.,the bow has got to be at least $800..Happy to see the Wildlife management is on the ball, also giving a break to the military folks, they deserve it.🇨🇦🇺🇸👍

Really interesting to find out the process of hunting from start to finish, so thank you for this video. Does fishing have the same regulations and do you have as much fish as meat? Your account of your first trip really helped illustrate the time and challenges involved, which I had no idea of!

It is good to know what all is involved with hunting. I too cannot fathom killing and gutting an animal in the woods, but now that I've seen it done on utube many times by sustainable people, making use of it and even making their dogs food and having a meat supply for the winter months, it is highly important. Good tutorial.

And then the differences between gun and bow hunting! Can be complicated, but for those who do it, they breathe the process. Another issue I have looked into is the shot. Lead vs. what? Are there rules for this? And the effects on meat and environment? And last, have always loved your videos about Mark and boys. Are more coming? Thank You, great overview and gear. 🥰

Video 3 of 3 Catch Up... Yay!! I'm all caught up 😁 Shabbat Shalom and Good Afternoon Hamm Family ❤️ Weather is still very overcast and hanging out around 52°F, windy 🌬️ I pray y'all are enjoying your Easter weekend... keep the memories coming ✝️ Mark and I haven't hunted, up to now, but are interested. We do have many Family and Friends that are hunters... mostly deer and duck, some turkey with a few other types of game thrown in 🏹 As far as I can tell, most of the hunting rules, regulations, licensing, permitting, etc., are very similar... both hunting and fishing (we do have fishing licenses). Fees and tags are a must, aside from a few exceptions or inclusions 🪪 There's a lot of preparations made and difficulties getting to some locations, but not as extreme as in Alaska. Tree stands are monitored and regulated. No baiting is allowed. Private property doesn't require licensing, but there are some rules to follow, like who is allowed to hunt on private land... typically family only, some exceptions ⚖️ I've eaten wild game from a hunt: deer (venison), turkey and duck. I like it as long as it's not too gamey. Nice Moose rack BTW 🫎 I grew up fishing with my Dad, primarily Largemouth Bass... have some mounts. I can bait it, catch it, clean it and cook it 🎣 I also learned how to humanely slaughter, pluck, and butcher both chicken and turkey, though it's been awhile 🐔🦃 Hunting as a necessity for feeding your Family, Friends and Community is 100% okay in my book; though, I do take issue with those that kill an animal only for sport/trophy, and of course, poaching. It's just wrong and evil, especially when a species is endangered 😢 Thank you for sharing this information. Very interesting and educational. Also, you're a trip... way too funny seeing your "costume" changes and blooper 😂 Happy Easter. Stay warm. Stay safe. Stay happy. Yah's Blessings ❤️
