Thank you! It can be hard to remember to record them, but I do think they add a lot to the videos.

Hello Alex - following along, and enjoying. I am surprised you don’t have tubeless tires on the bike. A lot of thorns in the wild. Seems like you have had quite a few flats already. Best of luck! Thank you for taking us along!

On that note, how many flats have you had on the GDMBR?
@Crankingit

I guess I'm still kinda scared of going tubeless. I can fix flats no problem at this point, but I have no experience with what can go wrong on a tubeless setup.

I always admire bicyclists who will pedal to almost a stop up a hill rather than walk the bike 😅. I definitely would walk but I admire the determination🎉

It's often faster to just walk up some of these rocky slopes, but I kind of enjoy the balance challenge that comes with trying to navigate up obstacles.

Too bad about the pannier clip breaking. Ortlieb does sell replacements. We personally have always carried spares.

Our panniers are from 2007 and still going strong

The clips were actually the newest parts, I bought them right before leaving. There were other problems with the panniers as well, though. Screws were coming loose, and holes were starting to tear open. Maybe they would have lasted longer if I had taken better care of them, but they seemed to be on their last legs, and I wanted something reliable as I entered Mexico.

Can’t go wrong with ortlieb. I bought a replacement pair for the rear about 2 years ago when on sale, thinking the current ones were about to go out. Going 11 years strong with everyday use, and a 3 month tour across the USA. I love how there is almost no cars where your riding. I’m starting to look for more and more tours with no cars!

Totally! They're classic for a reason. The Great Divide is perfect for avoiding cars, as long as you don't mind a bit of gravel. After I finished it, I did ride with cars a bit, bit I didn't shoot that so much because it's not as pretty and I didn't want to get off my bike to set up a shot in the middle if traffic!

14:00 Plastic clips I thought about getting Ortlieb but that's why I didn't get them. I bought Arkel hardware & made my own panniers on my sewing machine.

The benefit of cycling over motorcycles is its quite and allows for experience of sounds around but it can be difficult with sand and wind. Although electric bikes have come a long way with harmonic pin ring transmission technology that omits the requirement for traditional gearing and so is lite and quite which makes it ideal for an easier ride so to experience the sounds of nature.

I also like that cycling without a motor slows the traveler down. A motorcyclist can do in an hour what takes me a day (more or less). This makes the world seem so much larger to the cyclist and forces them to take much more notice of the details of the places they ride through and the subtle changes that occur.

Non alcoholic beer seems to be taking off over here in the U.K. been drinking it for about 4 months now, feel much better for it and the quality is much better than the non alcoholic beer that was available in the 80/90’s
