The last time I went to this spot, I got all set up and right before dark discovered I didn't have anything to start a fire. I was bummed. It had been a long, rushed day and I just wanted to relax around a fire and cook a meal. (Click here to see that FAIL video): • Epic Camping Fail ~ Ow...
This is the redemption video. It was a great trip. I set up two Army shelter halves for my tent, cooked a steak with my dog, and enjoyed the January thaw. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Thanks for your views, comments, and support!

Your dog appears to be very well behaved also when you were eating she deserves a good atta girl. Back in 1977, I spent four months miles and miles from anybody out in the woods surviving off the land. I ate a lot of fish and some meat. I had two dogs with me, a border-Colley and an airedale shepherd mix, they were very smart dogs. I had some dry dog food for them. But, I didn't like them sitting and watching me eat, or begging while I ate. So, if they watched or begged while I ate, it was just dry dog food for them that day, but if they didn't watch or beg while I ate, I always fed them some of what I was eating when I was finished. They learned this and they could be running around playing with each other, the moment I started to eat, they would both go next to their dog dishes, lay down and not even look at me while I ate; the entire time I ate, it got to where I purposely fixed more then I could eat, because it got to where they always did that. Also, I could purposely leave my dish easily where they could reach and walk away and they would not touch it unless I said: "it's okay". Your dog looks to be very similar. Very well behaved, you should be proud.I enjoy watching your videos, I love your attitude.

When I was in my thirties I'm 50 poor now almost LOL but I had my wife at the time I'm divorced now she dropped me off in the woods for 2 weeks up in a remote part near Port Huron on state land and I had attempt a sleeping bag and a lantern to cook on and I took some canned goods it was in the middle of winter and it was cold but it was the most satisfying the most relaxing time of my life having four kids and getting away from it all for a minute was just beautiful. I was on a river there was turkeys and deer I had a 410 shotgun in a recurve bow but I was really relaxed in my environment at the time and it was good salmon fishing up there too. When I see your videos it reminds me of those times it brings back memories. Thank you for keeping up the tradition in our state of Michigan I've never been to Alaska but I want to maybe someday? Y'all take care now and God bless you and your family Brooke

Love you videos, I love the mountains, I grew up camping in the back woods of the Sierra Nevada mountains... I wear a bracelet that is stainless steel with stamped trees, pines, oaks, even ferns on it that on the inside says, "the mountains are calling the I must go". My dad built a cabin and a few years later bought 40 acres on top of a mountain and built a beautiful home were he and my mom moved to. It was off grid, water well, generators, and wood stove heat. We did have propane for the fridge, cook stove, and a clothes dry. It was 4 & 1/2 miles of dirt and gravel in some areas of road to get to the top of the mountain were the house was we had a home base CB radio for emergencies. My Dad bought a International from the foresty service that had a snow plow on it and we had a tractor my dad brought up from the farm back at home, home were I grew up. As a kid we would have to go in in our jeeps a clear out road to my grandfather's camp, he had a great camp he built back in 1948, a great rock stove with a cast iron top that my grandma always cooked on and we set around at night to keep warm. We were there almost every weekend through deer season. By the time deer season started we had just went back to school from summer break, mom would get my and my sister's school work for the first two weeks of deer season and we would be at the camp, no school, but we still had to do the school work our teachers sent, about a fourth of our classes would be out the first week or two of deer season. I grew up in a rural country small farming town, everyone went hunting and fishing. Later in live I worked for the local Girl Scout Council as a program director, a canoe instructor, a first aid and CPR instructor, and trained. I trained many women and a few men in camping skills. Fire starting, putting up a tent, using a camp stove, knife skills, you name it I have had some great adventures with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, my family and lots of good friends camping, canoeing, horse treks, and backing in my area of the Sierra's. It's such a beautiful place and feels more like home to me. We have some beautiful lakes to, spent a lot of time in the past fishing and water skiing on them. Plus some great snow skiing, I skied at a lot of them. You have to make sure you visit Yosemite National Park if you're in my area of the mountains, no matter how many times I go there, no matter what season it is it is amazing ❤ you really do remind me as my younger self Brook. I will be 70 this year and due to a accident a few years ago am disabled now, I can't do a lot of that outdoor thing I did all my life. But I get to the mountains when I can and it will always be were my heart is ❤❤

When you said " Great day to be alive guys " I had a flashback to 1978. I was playing lacrosse for a small college in Massachusetts. One freezing cold sleeting day in spring we were at practicing and everyone was absolutely MISERABLE. The coach was doing his best Vince Lombardi shtick. "Great day to be alive guys, great day to be alive!" Ill never forget that as long as I live , that and the fact he was dressed to explore the Antarctic. Thanks for another great video and we're having a January thaw as well. ⛺️☮️🇺🇸

Had these tents when I was in the army when Reagan President. Take your poles and set one end. Tie the guide rope for this pole down tight. Then stake the corners that are on the same end as the pole you just secured down taught. Go to the other end set that pole, pull till the top is taught. Secure rope to pole into the ground. Then repeat staking the corners, pulling everything taught, then stake the flaps at each end. Then secure the center tent loops. Note, stake all loops till the tent is down on the ground so you don’t have wind coming up under the tent. We would use our rain poncho as a ground cover. Have fun!!

I am a smoker, i always have ways to start fire lol. But i still NEVER keep all my fire kit in 1 spot for that particular reason, i try to incorporate it into all of my smaller kits in some way. I put a book of matches in my cook kit for example. Personally, i would have just popped a bullet for the powder, and then ignited it with the primer. Pain in the ass, but works lol trust me

Beautiful video. For tents you need to know a taught-line hitch, which is adjustable.. I learned that one from a Boy Scout manual and it tremendously useful, I showed my stepdaughter how to tie that and some other knots. A few years later she was going camping with some friends from high-school and she quickly asked if I could go over that one knot again, so she could look like what she really was, a girl who was exposed to camping, hunting and fishing (by her father) and wanted to look experienced in front of the guys. It took seconds to give her a refresher and send her on her way confident. Also if you angle your tent pegs so they are pointing in towards your tent slightly, if you can't get them all the way down, the rope will scoot down as that is closer to the tent anyway.

I was appalled when my 4 grandkids aged 18 to 26 from my oldest in Springfield , Missouri ( the fishing capital of the U.S. ) said they never been fishing before . My son’s excuse “ I don’t like eating bait “ That changed real quick once I moved out there . mewbornidentity I was thinking that as well... One of the top rules of gun safety is to never point it towards something you aren't willing to destroy, yourself should definitely be in that category

Charles McIver being a revolver with the hammer down, means the hammer is pretty much sitting right on the primer at all times, the trigger doesn't need to be touched to set it off, however unlikely. That's why people will often carry them with an empty chamber, or a dummy round

Not to mention one of the other top gun safety rules, no such thing as an unloaded gun. It's always dangerous

Great trip! After I saw your last video I went out and bought a 5-pack of lighters, and made sure to refresh my fire kit. Can't wait to cook up some steak out on the trail.

Usually when a dog keeps putting its back end at you ,means they want the lower back scratched real good, they can’t get to the top lower back.I love watching her mess with you though its cute and funny.😁👍👍👍it’s always fun watching you and her camping out.

After watching your video with my great grandkids, I cringed when I noticed you had pointed your gun toward yourself trying to force your belt through . Please be careful , get some training on gun safety and handling . Sorry not trying to scold you , nobody’s perfect lol , just want to keep you making more great videos . 👍

I remember those tents from the Army in the 80’s. It’s a two man tent, but when you get two guys plus ALL their gear in there, it is VERY tight! Every guy was issued 1 shelter half, 1 rope, 3 pole sections and 5 tent pegs. That was exactly 1/2 of a tent. So obviously you had to have two people for one complete shelter. 😂 You did great setting it up cuz it is actually a two person job! Kudos!

Greetings from Prince Edward Island Canada. I roared with laughter when you put that light string up. A local store in Canada, Canadian Tire had those on clearance. They were made by "Woods" and came with a 4200mah battery pack. They were reg. $39.99 cdn on clearance for 9.99, so I bought eight of the crazy things, I love them. Since they are USB, you can hook up a small 12V SLA, add battery clips with a female receptacle then add a USB cigarette lighter accessory for longer power time

Please consider doing this because I watch a lot of Bushcraft subscribers and very few do music backgrounds. Lets just enjoy the sounds of nature and your narrative instead please... 👍
