Workin', Fishin', & Sourdough Pancakes with my dog

Maysie/Daisy and I enjoy some off grid time at our remote wall tent in the UP of Michigan. Ya know, I love my dog sooooo much... but fishin' with her was, well- you'll just have to watch to see if I caught anything! Also got some work done and made some EPIC sourdough pancakes with FRESH wild blueberries. Yes- This. Is. The. LIFE.

I hesitate to make a suggestion to such an experienced and knowledgeable lady but, dogs don't like stuff under their feet that's slippery and with no purchase for their nails. Maybe an old rug or blankie, or a couple of old pillows in the bottom of the canoe might make Maisie more amenable to riding along with Momma. 😊 I'm an old lady in Alberta enjoying your adventures during these months stuck inside due to being health compromised, and I thank you so much for sharing your beautiful space in the outdoors with us. It's a real treat, believe me. 😊👍💖

Tip: Corn on the cob - leave the husks on, wrap in foil, put right down in the coals, half into the coals, the other half sticking out, so you can grab to flip it. Keeps all the juice in, makes it tender, steams it. Flip one end for the other so both sides are good and cooked. The foil should look browned if not burnt. When done, open the foil, pull off the husks, add butter and salt, voila! Excellent tender and juicy corn on the cob. (Butter and salt only if you want.)

I have most recently stumbled across this channel. And I must say, I was only interested in learning how to build things. But the more and I got to watching these videos. And realized I have been sucked in to your life style. And I'm so want that for myself. A few years back I moved to M.O. and I live out in the country. Like I told your husband.... I just watched you guys a few weeks ago and think you both are inspiring and a lot of fun! I love the fact that you include your pets and the actually stay close to you while camping. I grew up around all the outdoors stuff and respecting nature and it's beautiful wildlife.... Brought back fond memories of when I used to fish with my beloved Beauregard, a 90lb Irish Setter. He loved to ride in the canoe with me but never quite comprehended that center of gravity thing in a canoe. He dumped us any number of times. When I did catch a fish, he wanted to crawl unto my lap to get a good sniff... which was usually the prelude to going over. Used to get so mad at that dog, but now, years later, would love to have the experience with him again. Just once.

Interesting! That vintage "Trapper Nelson Pack" that you are using. My parents were friends with Trapper Nelson. He lived on the Loxahatchee River in Florida. We kids, as teenagers, would canoe to his place on the river, and explore around. He died before we really knew him, but his legend lives on.

Great time at the U.P. camp ,, a little work for sight improvements ,, then a little relaxation and play to comfort the mind ,, body and soul..... Awesome chow ,, I think Maysie eats better than many of us ,, but that's because she has a loving mama... She certainly likes to stay close ,, and that's a good thing,, one day she will jump in the canoe and point the way...think of scene in Titanic ....lol..(might want to put in an old blanket or pad for her ,, moving around with the dog claws makes a lot of sound transfer in the water in an aluminum canoe)......while you get a chance to explore the lake..... really has me wondering as well...guessing maybe smallmouth bass and northern pike ,, maybe muskie ... ... Brooke try grilling the corn in the husk over the fire, Peel off first layer of husk , that frizzy hair at one end, and soak in water for 20 min so no flare ups. No butter needed.

The "berries" at the lake are winterberry. Also known as Michigan holly. The berries you had with the blueberries looked like serviceberry. Locals call them juneberry and sugar plums.

Great video where's your hubby still in Alaska? I'll offer two unsolicited suggestions. You commented on how the well pump moved when you pumped the handle. What would happen if you took either that piece of log in front of the pump or a longer piece and with your chainsaw made a groove from top to bottom the size of the pipe and slide it up against the pipe to give the pipe more support. If you made it as tall as the mounting flange of the pump you could lag screw it to the top cut of the log. Sorry for butting in you folks do great stuff. If you paint the outhouse interior. I would suggest white or a light color for light reflection. Oh well that's my free advice. Wonderful cooking and hilarious frustrating fishing trip. Thanks
