Yes, I agree too. At least think about it Mick. I know The Voice of the North who worked out of Barrow in the late 80’s early 90’s. Those were rich days and for the undisciplined, addictive. But, learning village life in Alaska would be great for your art. Oh and he’s a big character now living in Oregon. 😊

I had two kids a girl and boy. My girl at 18 when on her own to NYC, moved into a boarding house. It was scary for me, I was proud of her independence, and didn’t want to express my fears. She stayed three weeks, ran out of money, couldn’t get a job, so she came home. She didn’t move in with me and her brother but in with a friend. She went back to working and finished her high school diploma. Now at 29, she has her BA in marine biology. I am proud of her achievements, and know that her experience has prepared her for the future. I don’t worry about her, she figures out her obstacles.

My Dad taught me so many great things as I was growing. I was always the one who was determined to figure out an easier way of doing something in spite of him showing and telling me the right way to get a task done. I failed hundreds of times, always reverting back to the way he taught me in the end. He never criticized my failures but would usually ask, "So how did that work out for you?" Two of his sayings have stuck with me for these 76 years I've been on this planet, "Can't never could do anything" and "The impossible just takes a little longer". I admire your son for his willingness to take the risks and not getting job done right the first time and gaining the skills, knowledge and experience to get it right the next time. Being 18 does not come with a whole lot of skill sets, just like they didn't come with an operating manual when they were born and we as parents had to face the task of raising them by gathering those skills as we went. Thank goodness a lot of us got it right in the end. Sorry to ramble, Peace.
