You are fill with drunken liar's crap! I have been a professional Alaskan hunting guide since 1989 doing brown bear & Yukon moose hunts. That what you said is total liars' crap and a handgun is worthless against these bears. These two knuckle heads are going to get killed using a home defense handgun and an AR 10 chambered for a deer cartridge. Their time is coming when all fails on them in that thick brush then a brown bear will be on them so fast someone getting killed! The minimum for large Alaskan bears is a 338-win mag loaded with 225 grain Barns TSX bullets. The last 9-foot brown bear one of my clients killed took 9 300-win mag 180 grain Trophy bonded bear claw bullets and 5 338-win mag 210 grain Nosler partition bullets from my 338-win mag then jumped into the river and died from drowning because the bear was so messed up from bullet strikes it wasn't able to swim! The range of shooting was 180 yards. That bear they killed was a yearly easily identified by its size and small head. Other bears my clients have killed have taken 5 bullets from a 458 Lott !

Hi Guys! Alaska Air Taxi Pilot here. I take a lot of folks like you in & out of hunt cabins all over. Nice riverbank landing! Nice hunt cabin site in the works too! I'll give you an easy tip to keep your buildings ""Bear proof" Get a lot of wood planks like 8" by 3" by 10' or however long is easy for you. Then drive rows and rows of nails thru them. Then just simply anchor them in a perimeter around whatever building or area your protecting. Once a bear steps on a bed of nails it will back out right quick! You can make two or 3 rows of them. Experiment. Find which works best for you. Also build some concrete block fire pits. Its a simple matter to have burning fires going, when your trying to get some shuteye. Bears not going to be so quick to approach open fires. Recently I have been experimenting with fence razor wire....stainless steel kind .... Around the entrance to my underground food storage place. I'm not a hunter, so won't get drawn into the best gun, best round debate. Since growing up here I have had to shoot my share of charging browns. Talk about a "Panic Attack"... I carry a 12 gag shotgun, with rifled slugs having burning magnesium tips. Takes 3 to 4 to drop one and one more to kill. I was watching a KZbin channel where this fellow is designing and making extremely powerful shotgun rounds. Makes a slug seem like a 22. So check it out if you have interest. Best Wishes!

For people saying the .308 round might seem small- also you have a semi automatic and decent capacity. So you can shoot several times fairly quickly. Way faster than a bolt action. So missing or not making the first shot count might be less catastrophic if you can make a fast follow up. Different drawbacks and advantages from a bolt gun.

.308 is a lot closer to .30/06 than people think. 180 gr. from an aught 6 can easily kill anything on this side of the world. You can get 165 and 180 grn's as common loads for 7.62x51 if you want to try to push it towards other .30 cal level's stopping power.

I doubt that "ready to charge" brown bear was even aware of you. It sure wasn't acting like it knew humans were around. Also, I assume you would be hunting down wind and the sounds of the river would prevent the bear from hearing you.

While you are correct about the river noise you are not about the wind direction. Unfortunately my camera is needing an upgrade because it was too far away but the bear was well aware of our presence and had stood up as it rounded the corner for a better look.

@alaskacutthecord769

Thanks for joining. The answer is a little complicated. It was part predator control. There are so many bears in the area that they eat all of the baby moose calves and half decimated the moose population in recent years. Meat is the second reason. Mostly you can't eat bear if it's eaten fish or moose because it makes the meat taste terrible, but this bear was early enough that it was really good.

The pilots that flew us out charge around 25k for a weeks hunt with food included. They do not guide, just drop you off and hope that the weather us o.k. to pick you up on an agreed date. Some big game have to be a guided hunt if not a resident. But there can be other costs. For instance, If you do a fly in for moose it's $1000 each way per person and the pilot doesn't stay so you pay for him to fly back. Then, if you shoot a moose it has to be flown out, sometimes taking three trips at $2000 a round trip. Gets really pricey.

I'd be a little bit uneasy regarding stopping a charging bear with 7.62 x 39...especially considering it's semi-auto and could fail at a critical moment. Really good video. A blind man on a running horse can see you're not undercapitalized ... So, I use a Desert Eagle .44 Mag sidearm. Not good for you for many reasons. Colt has come out with a great new .44 Mag (Anaconda) with a 6" barrel that would be great for You. Use "only" the Hornady XTP in 240 grains. It both penetrates and mushrooms for big game. It will "never" jam. Stay with the M4 platform, but I'm using a built Beowulf .50 Cal. along with a muzzle brake. Use "only" the Hornady XTP in 350 grains. You can listen to all the BS that will be posted, but in reality, neither will bother you with recoil. I can put 5 rounds inside a quarter at 100 yards with my scope, but if i were hunting Brown's I would use iron sights as You do. Again ... nice video and we're looking for more.
@alaskacutthecord769
@alaskacutthecord769 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the comment. I like your stance on the Hornady ammo as well. A friend of mine up here has the m4 platform in that exact caliber. I'll have to see if I can put a few rounds through it. It sure would have a lot more stopping power.

@@alaskacutthecord769 Brother ... they (Beowulf) were designed for the Israeli's to stop vehicles at road blocks. In FMJ, they will take out an engine block. In Hornady XTP, they will penetrate then mushroom to almost twice their size. Just know this, and it's no rub. At 100 yards I can literally drive tacks. At 200 yards, the bullet drop is 11.5 inches. For your hunting that accuracy and dependable drop work perfectly. My ballistics are 2,000 fps and 1,980 ft. lbs. energy @ 100 yards. A word on recoil. Without exaggeration, the Beowulf is equal to a 12 guage shotgun. The KZbin videos are greatly exaggerated. The COLT: I'm going to order the Anaconda in .44 Mag with a 6" barrel. This rifle/revolver setup should be awesome for you. The Anaconda is heavier than the 1911, but the M4 Beowulf offsets to make your carried weight acceptable. You're going to need a new T-Shirt that says "women love me, Brown's and Sockeye fear me".

@eedd sdsd I was speaking of his back up side arm, 45 ACP. 10mm hard cast lead rounds are very effective.

The last time a grizzly killed someone in the greater Anchorage area, it was never seen again. That incident involved a large adult bear defending a moose kill along the McHugh Creek trail south of Anchorage in 1995. It attacked 77-year-old Marci Trent and her 45-year-old son, Larry Waldron. Both were killed. A hunt was launched for the bear but it was never found. There were no more fatal grizzly attacks in the Anchorage area in the more than two decades that followed. The bear would likely be in its 30s now, or already dead. But there is a possibility it is still alive. The oldest bear reported in the wild in Alaska was a female that made it to age 39.

This is the way Elmer Fudd hunts. Pretty good shot but real brave white man shooting it damn near a hundred yards with field sites that's an accomplishment but it's cheating. An automatic rifle is just unfair. Trophy Hunter didn't even wear camouflage didn't even make the appearance of trying to be a real Woodsman. Couch Potato Hunter

@alexandergregorov9694 Ditto: warning shots first!!! If he come's at you, then you shoot!!!!! Not beforehand, bears have a life to consider too.

Like every I saw in this video the camp setup and everything else even no problem with the 45 for backup! And even though yes 308 is a little light for big bear I won't say it's not enough! But please that damd ugly ass Star Wars rifle needs to be gone! I can only emagin every time Bill RUGER sees his name stamped on a gun that ugly he rolls over in his grave and says lots of bad words!
