Hearing him recount the attack was unreal. I dont think ive ever heard a survivor of a grizzly attack tell their story like that. Tough sob to survive that and then administer first aid to himself. Military training ftw! I get really irritated hearing him talk about the negative attention he got post attack. Some people just suck. Shayne, you're more than welcome to come crossbow hunt in Oklahoma with me this year.

Search Jeremy Evans on youtube. If you like this story, you'll love his. There's videos of him explaining his attack. He was mauled 2 or 3 times by the same bear while mountain goat hunting. He fought the bear off, then hiked for miles through the woods on a broken leg to his truck. He then drove his truck to a resort and got help from people there. But he was arguing with the people helping him because he wanted to fish while he waited for the Medevac helicopter.

The commenters complaining about the interruptions.... you should remember that this can be looked at more like a conversation between a few friends, not like a documentary podcast on a single subject. Also keep in mind that rinella started the podcast on the advice from Rogan who has done pretty well just having conversations. This is typically how me and my friends talk and tell stories.
@EweCantHandletheTruth

And that’s fine and true, I think it’s just a little constructive criticism if Steve reads the comments and maybe rewatches the interview. He’d probably agree from a hosts or a listeners perspective, understanding that 100’s of thousands of people are listening. Ain’t no biggie, just an observation!

I never heard this story when it first happened. After listening to the podcast and being familiar with wild animal attacks/close calls, I don’t feel there is anything wrong with the attempt at humor or excessive questioning from the ME crew. We are all so lucky that Shayne is alive to tell his story, and I think it is quite natural for listeners/interviewers to be so enthralled with the story that our mind cannot process what it is like to be in the same situation. So yes, a lot of random questions came up, but that is because what happened is so unique and most often does not result in the story being able to be shared. My mind was going crazy trying to understand the scene, but with the questions and answers it really helped to capture what happened even just a tiny bit better. As a survivor of a wild animal attack where you didn’t know the outcome, humor does help to cope with the trauma. If it didn’t bother Shayne and his wife, it shouldn’t bother anyone else. So glad that you, Shayne, are still here to share your story. It was not your time! You were meant to share your story with the rest of us. Thank you for being so brave and vulnerable!

The good bad and the ugly can happen so quickly. I am amazed at just how quick mama was on top of him. Thank God for that can of bear spray. I'm a hiker from Kansas and I've had to do a little research about bears down in Arkansas and Missouri even though the odds are extremely slim. But, when I got sniffed by a black bear in Tennessee behind my head by inches, I glazed over. The only thing I could tell people here at home is that it sounded like a cow eating feed out of a bucket. It was enough. Not scared. Glazed. I hiked solo in Montana and Wyoming a few yrs afterwards. Perhaps, not my Brightest moments but I was prepared I thought. I don't think anything can you truly be prepared for something that can happen so lightning fast. You are extremely lucky. Wow .... and get that can man!! Seriously! I agree with the guys. Get back out there when you can. Sounds like you and your wife have a passion for the mountain air. So glad you came out on your tumor and now this. You've got this. Thank you for your story. It can truly save another's life by listening. Good luck and have a happily ever after. Take a honeymoon 1st..... 😊

Having only been in Grizzly country once in the Rocky Mountain for a late October, early November hunt, I am inexperienced in the matter. With three of us having spray, firearms, and head’s on a swivel, I was still a bit nervous of walking up on one. We seen none, but walked up on a young moose at 10 yards, which scared me just as much when a dark fur patch moved. I wouldn’t mind seeing one through the spotting scope, but would still be concerned knowing one was in the area. For this reason, I would like to be able to legally pop a FlIR equipped drone in the air every once in a while to ensure there are none near us, but know that it would ruin the hunt. Not much you can do but be extra prepared and cautious.
