They said this in the early 80s, then they came back with an absolutely stonking majority which sent the Tories into complete disarray. They also said the Liberals would never fall into obscurity after 200 years of dominating British politics, yet they went all the way down to 6 seats at one point.

Consider that the under 40s overwhelmingly support Labour and the aging Tory vote and it is likely this will see a very different demographic dominating voting in ten years time. The rate Starmer is going though, he may well hand even more voters over to the opposition.

Tony Blair destroyed the Labour party. He tried to gerrymander a Scottish support for Labour, by creating a devolved parliament thinking the Scottish would be eternally grateful. I don't agree with Blair on much, however, he was damned right on removing Sadam Hussein from power. Tony Blair gained a great deal of respect from me on his bravery in making that call. I know of very few politicians today who have that strength of resolve. Most political commentators and critics of Blair's decision would run a mile from making those kind of decisions. I wrote to Tony Blair at that time and begged him to stand firm and do what was right and support the integrity of Global institutions like the UN which Sadam had split right down the middle including NATO with France aligned with Russia against the UK and USA. Sadam was playing a very dangerous game and Tony did the right thing. These institutions are still strong thanks to his actions. Margarate Thatcher was 100% correct in her initial assessment of Blair when she said; "Britain is safe in his hands". It was.
