Ear plugs and a blind fold just to get him into the gate ? Albahr : foaled Feb. 2019 5-4-0-1 with over 170,000 British pounds in winnings as of Sept 2021 What doesn't hurt now WILL hurt tomorrow and what that horse was afraid of before just got compounded by this nightmare experience.

I think if a horse's needs a blindfold _and_ earplugs to load; he should not be allowed to race. Albahr's trainer put a lot of people and horses in danger. Horses should be taught to load and stand in the gate.

In my opinion, that horse doesn't really like to race. He made that crystal clear to me, clue #1 the horse is blindfolded and brought to an put in the gate before, the blindfold is removed? Clue #2, when, a horse rears in a small area and has a rider, it's obvious, the horse is fearful of what's happening and has gone into flight or fight mode. Well, he couldn't very well run so, it fought. Wake up folks, if you pay attention to them, you'll figure out what they're saying. I wouldn't put that horse back in that situation not for all the money in the world, there's not enough money to compensate for a life human or other wise.✌

Exactly, and glad you mention life after the track. Fact is, most racehorses don't make it very far in the horse would and end up retiring, and the amount of fresh ottbs I know who don't even know basic ground and flatware for their age is ridiculous. We just trained them to accept it. But racing and showjumping is just a no no for me. This horse may not make a runner BUT, may make him a jumper or for dressage ... Poor baby ! I still hate to see 2 year olds racing ....should change rules to age 4 year olds to begin racing...their front legs at age 2 may NOT be at full growth...most of the weight of the horse comes down on his front legs ....tremendous pressure on the tendons and bones...that is why they can sometimes break a front leg pretty easily ... So, give them that time to mature....then if that horse doesn't make the grade for racing due not being fast enough....they could become a jumper or dressage participant ... They could still have a good life .... 🐎 Christina M. Smith 🐎 Sedalia, Missouri

Well the last place to knit on a young horses body before they mature is their stifles and when they have a problem with the rear end it shifts to the front end because they're trying to get off the problem in the back end..... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out but with all the money involved they can't afford to stop (trainers) and maybe lose their clients that's the trainers perspective, but the owners want their picture in the paper etcetera

Some juveniles have great natural speed and talent. Thoroughbreds love to run no doubt. But some juvies just have too much adrenaline and get easily stressed out with all the sights and sounds of a race. Some of these athletes may never master the stressors of being on a racetrack. Unfortunately some owners don't give a crap. They look at their racehorse purely as an investment and make the trainer get them on the track competing no matter if they can handle it or not. These are the people that give horse racing a bad name. If a horse is not ready then don't stuff a sack over their heads and blinders around their eyes. Just accept they are not ready for the sensory overloads of a horse race.

European horses don't get the same amount of gate training that American horses do. Typically it is the 2 year old horses that tend to act up in the gate. Visually the gate is terrifying to them. So it takes time to get a horse used to seeing it parked, let alone get in and stand perfectly still inside of it. A good trainer will let the horse 'tell' him when he's fine to progress with the gate. It's a daily routine that must end on a good and happy note on order to progress. This horse is young. He'll have a great racing career in no time. Then he'll get a better 'job' as a stud.

The problem here is they don't train them properly to load into the gate and a lot of the times they're actually afraid of it. I think there should be more training in regards to how to load into the gate. You shouldn't have to use a bunch of tools to get a horse into the gate, they should go in either on their own or just with a lead. And since these guys are also very young, they need to be broken in more before they're put in a race. These horses are not fully trained and it would probably be better for them to prevent these kind of things by making sure they are completely ready to be in a competition. I am glad that they decided to scratch the horse because he probably would have been too afraid to go back in or run. I just hope that he's not too traumatized.

Let these babies grow up to 4yr olds before they are raced, all race horses should not need ear plugs and a blindfold to load nor should they be ear twitched in the barrier to hold them there, and whips should be banned the horse should go when asked with hands and heels and voice not by an enthusiastic jockey with his/her overzealous use of a whip. This poor baby was really scared went up came down with a leg over rail then went over backwards also blind Freddy could see it was very lame when being led back to the saddling area.
